Chelsea transfer news: Mayulu – Luis

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of James Trafford, Felipe Luis and Senny Mayulu that you guys could have missed…

Former Blues star Filipe Luis held talks with Chelsea’s ownership group before he was sacked by Flamengo this week after their latest 8-0 win, according to reports in Brazil.

In what turned out to be his final game in charge, Luis’ Flamengo side sealed an 8-0 win against Madureira to reach the final of the Carioca where they will face Fluminense, but Flamengo president, Luiz Eduardo Baptista opted to sack Luis in the early hours of Tuesday morning following the game.

According to UOL Esporte, part of the reason behind the breakdown in relationship between Luis and Baptista was the discovery of his talks with Chelsea’s BlueCo ownership, who had held talks over a move to Strasbourg.

UOL Esporte’s Rodrigo Mattos said: ‘What wasn’t known, and which is information circulating within Flamengo’s board now, is that two weeks ago Bap discovered that Filipe had been negotiating with Chelsea in the meantime.

‘He negotiated with CHELSEA, possibly to work there for the Chelsea group, and during this negotiation, he didn’t speak to Flamengo for about three days.

‘At a certain point, Filipe discovers that – and this is the version within Flamengo, I repeat, I haven’t had time to speak with sources close to Filipe yet – it’s not for Chelsea, but for Strasbourg, which is the club in the group, and upon discovering this, he returns to the negotiating table with Flamengo.

‘I think it’s normal for him to have negotiations with another club to eventually switch clubs. But Bap discovered this two weeks ago, felt deceived, and the relationship, which already had cracks, became even more turbulent, which generates very little patience for bad results.’

Meanwhile, in an audio recording circulating among Flamengo’s hierarchy, which was leaked to the media in Brazil, Baptista explained the reasons behind the decision to sack Luis.

‘What’s being said really happened, but it’s not the main reason. Everyone has the right to talk and evaluate what’s best for themselves. I have no doubt that this happens not only with Filipe, but with other guys as well,’ Baptista said in the recording.

‘In my view, it’s like this: when you get on the wrong train in life, you know what you have to do? Get off at the first possible station and go back. My unwavering commitment is to the institution, to Flamengo.

‘When I don’t believe that what’s being done will take Flamengo to where we want it to be, I have to act. That’s exactly what I did. I’m intervening fundamentally because I believe that, considering everything that was being done, we weren’t going in the direction I consider appropriate for the institution.’

CHELSEA TIPPED TO SIGN MAYULU

Chelsea are among the clubs “most likely” to make a bid for versatile Paris Saint-Germain ace Senny Mayulu this summer, according to CaughtOffside, with the Blues and several Premier League rivals readying themselves for a potential swoop.

Mayulu, a France youth international, has broken through at Paris Saint‑Germain after rising through the club’s academy to make more than 70 senior appearances, contributing goals and assists from midfield while also featuring in attack when required.

Contract extension negotiations have reportedly hit a stalemate due to differing wage expectations, leaving the France U21 standout’s future uncertain with his current deal running until 2027.

According to sources, CHELSEA’s recruitment staff have monitored Mayulu for some time, evaluating him as a high-upside addition capable of bolstering the Blues’ midfield creativity and positional flexibility.

CaughtOffside suggests Chelsea are among the “most likely” Premier League suitors to launch a formal offer if PSG decide to cash in rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in the future. Arsenal and Manchester City are also credited with interest, while Newcastle United and Aston Villa have been linked informally.

Mayulu’s appeal lies in his technical ability, tactical intelligence and versatility — he has operated not only as a central midfielder but also in more advanced roles across the attacking third.

That kind of adaptability would give Blues boss Liam Rosenior extra options in a squad that already values fluidity and press-resistant play. At just 19, Mayulu represents both a present contributor and a long-term investment.

Would a Move to England Be Worth Taking?

A switch to the Premier League would be a significant step for Mayulu. The English top flight is faster, more physical and tactically demanding than Ligue 1, and young players can sometimes need time to adapt.

On the positive side, regular Premier League football and exposure to European competition would accelerate his development and raise his profile. The intensity and global spotlight of English football could challenge him but also help refine his decision-making and resilience.

Conversely, immediate first-team opportunities at CHELSEA might be limited unless squad changes open up space; competition in midfield and attack is fierce. Still, the club’s faith in youth formula suggests that if Rosenior and the recruitment team back him, Mayulu could thrive.

CHELSEA TOLD TO SIGN TRAFFORD

Glen Johnson has urged Chelsea to target Caoimhin Kelleher this summer — just a year after the goalkeeper’s exit from Liverpool, as a possible replacement for struggling keeper Robert Sanchez.

The Republic of Ireland international joined Brentford in 2025 after several seasons at Liverpool, where he primarily served as deputy to Alisson Becker. Seeking regular first-team football, Kelleher moved to west London and quickly established himself as a starting goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Johnson, who previously played for both CHELSEA and Liverpool during his career, believes the 27-year-old has the qualities to succeed at Stamford Bridge and could represent a smart addition if the club decides to strengthen its goalkeeping department.

Speaking in reaction to the goalkeeper’s strong form since leaving Anfield, Johnson suggested Chelsea should look closely at Kelleher’s development and consistency. He reportedly pointed to the Irishman’s composure, shot-stopping ability and experience at the highest level as reasons why he could thrive in a bigger role at a top club.

Kelleher emerged through Liverpool’s academy and made his senior debut for the club in 2019. Over the following seasons he built a reputation as a reliable understudy, particularly in domestic cup competitions.

During his time on Merseyside, he made 67 appearances, kept 24 clean sheets and won multiple trophies including the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League

Speaking to BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest football odds, former Liverpool and Chelsea defender Johnson said: “Caoimhin Kelleher would definitely be the less risky option right now.

“And again, that’s not to say who’s going to be the better player in two or three years, but Kelleher, anytime he was called upon for Liverpool, was fantastic.

“He’s now still doing another good job at Brentford. So if I had to pick a target now for Chelsea, it’d definitely be him. He’s done it with Liverpool, a big club in big games and big tournaments. So I’d say that’s the safest option.”

Since arriving at Brentford, Kelleher has impressed with a series of solid performances that have helped strengthen the club’s defensive record. His form has also drawn attention from pundits and observers across the Premier League, prompting speculation that bigger clubs could show interest in the coming transfer windows.

Whether CHELSEA will act on Johnson’s suggestion remains unclear, but the comments have added to growing speculation about Kelleher’s long-term future. With the summer transfer window approaching, the Brentford goalkeeper could find himself at the centre of renewed Premier League interest if his performances continue to attract attention.
