Manchester United star Harry Maguire has been faced with a major distraction ahead of the Newcastle United clash.
According to The Athletic, the former United skipper has been found guilty of non-serious assault and handed a suspended 15-month sentence in a retrial of his 2020 Mykonos case.
It is believed allegations against the Englishman were heard once again in the Greek court system on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old was arrested after a fight involving his family outside a bar in in Mykonos in August 2020.
The Englishman has consistently denied any wrongdoing and intends to appeal the retrial’s verdict in Greece’s Supreme Civil and Criminal Court.
Maguire is so keen on clearing his name that he has refused to settle the case despite it being dragged on for years after the retrial was postponed four times. Initially, he was handed a 21-month suspended sentence.
At this point, his availability for United’s match against Newcastle at St James’ Park remain unaffected.
