Zelda, Red Dead Redemption Collide In New Open-World Game That’s Available Now

Having seen the credits roll for both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Tears of The Kingdom more than once, now might be the time to try something new. Thankfully, over on Steam, a new game has just launched into early access that might scratch that exploration itch. Want to explore wide open countryside with just you, your wits and your trusty steed to keep you company? Of course you do!

The Legend of Khiimori launched in Steam early access on March 3, and it’s already receiving high praise from players. Taking place in 13th century Mongolia, The Legend of Khiimori sees you take on the role of courier as you bond with your horse and brave a wilderness as beautiful as it is dangerous to explore. If you want to survive the harsh environments, you’ll have to plan your delivery routes and train your horse well

Move over Epona, Roach, Agro and Torrent…there’s a new horse in town! Plenty of horses, actually. A major focus of The Legend of Khiimori is breeding and training many horses that will develop special skills which are crucial for your traversal across Mongolia. If you hope to explore the different climates and harsh terrain, you’ll need a suitable horse and your trusty bow and arrow.

Early adopters are already praising the depth and realism of the horse management mechanics. As the current top review from Steam user Sniff puts it, these horses aren’t just “meat motorcycles.” Instead, they feel fully fleshed out and real, and taking care of them feels worthwhile.

Riding across gorgeous landscapes hunting animals and chasing horses in Red Dead Redemption 2 was always one of the highlights, and it seems that The Legend of Khiimori nails that feeling too.

Steam User Reviews Are Already Very Positive

Off To A Strong Start

With it only launching into early access this week, the first impressions are extremely positive. Gamers are already loving the wonderfully realized Mongolian landscapes and serene music. Even though The Legend of Khiimori is in its early days, reviews suggest that it runs well even on low-end hardware, and braving the harsh landscapes and discovering the mysteries of the land seems to have players grinning ear to ear. Who needs Red Dead Redemption 3 when we’ve got a new open world RPG like this to explore?

Equine-focused adventures are few and far between, and it would seem that The Legend of Khiimori is fulfilling a need we never knew we had. Perhaps if the game is successful and the community grows, we might see future updates expanding the game like the continual additions to Red Dead Online.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to rename my horse Pepples and become a fully-fledged, legendary Yam courier. The Legend of Khiimori is available in early access on Steam now, so if you’ve been wanting to stirrup some trouble, now might just be the time. Sorry for the bad puns, I really need to rein it in.
