Mark Wahlberg & Tom Holland’s ‘Uncharted’ Swings Onto Free Streaming Home

There’s little doubt that Mark Wahlberg has become a man of action in recent years thanks to thrillers such as Flight Risk, Play Dirty, and The Union. He’s come a long way from The Basketball Diaries and Boogie Nights, solidifying himself as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors. He currently has no less than three movies in post-production right now, but before we get to those, fans should check out his 2022 action adventure thriller he starred in with none other than Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland.

Based on the popular Naughty Dog video game, this globe-trotting action thriller sees Wahlberg star as Victor “Sully” Sullivan, a treasure hunter who recruits Holland’s character to recover a 500-year-old fortune worth $5 billion. The only problem (other than Antonio Banderas trying to stop them at every turn) is that they have to learn to work together if they want to succeed.

It’s a simple story, but one that’s bolstered by the chemistry between Wahlberg and Holland, who play their parts as the youthful adventurer and the cynical mentor to perfection. With tremendous action sequences, massive set pieces, and the film’s old-school adventure vibe, it feels like a throwback to Indiana Jones’ various exploits, which immediately makes it worth watching. The best part of all is that Uncharted is streaming completely free on Tubi.

Critics Were Completely Wrong About ‘Uncharted’

Directed by Ruben Fleischer and hitting theaters on Feb. 18, 2022, Uncharted was a financial success that earned $407 million against a budget of $120 million. It became one of the most successful video game adaptations in recent memory, behind hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, A Minecraft Movie, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Unfortunately, Uncharted failed to connect with critics, who gave it just a 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Called everything from “overwhelmingly underwhelming” to “visually boring and charm-sucking,” they panned the movie for being underdeveloped and inconsistent, picking apart every small detail of the film to find something to complain about.

That being said, the majority of pundits were completely wrong about Uncharted. It wasn’t meant to be some highbrow, cinematic masterpiece, but rather a fun, action adventure thriller that people could get lost in for a couple of hours. It’s pure escapism — nothing more, nothing less. It may have felt a bit clunky at certain points, but it’s far better than the 41% rating they gave it.

Fans thought so, too, as they gave Uncharted a Verified Hot score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. “I loved everything about this movie,” wrote one person on the website, while another added:

“Fun, lots of adventures… great to see Tom doing something other than Spidey and drama flicks… great dynamic with him and Wahlberg too!”

What’s Next for Mark Wahlberg?

Coming full circle back to what’s next for Wahlberg, we mentioned that he has three other movies in various stages of post-production right now. One of those is Balls Up, which is an action comedy that also stars Paul Walter Hauser and focuses on rival co-workers who cause an international incident at the World Cup Final in Brazil.

Following that, Wahlberg will star in the historical crime thriller, By Any Means, which traces a notorious mafia hitman and a young Black FBI agent who team up to investigate the murders of civil rights leaders in Mississippi in 1966. To combat the seriousness of that one, he’ll follow it up with Weekend Warriors, which is another sports comedy movie that also stars Vera Farmiga.

Needless to say, at age 54, Wahlberg shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Be sure to catch him and Holland criss-crossing the globe in Uncharted, which is now streaming for free on Tubi.
