For only the second time since 2005, Universal will add a new chapter to one of the biggest horror franchises in history with the release of a rebooted The Exorcist in March 2027. This film will feature Mike Flanagan as the director, following his successful adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep in 2019, which earned praise from critics but underperformed at the box office. Now, after reentering the game in 2023 with The Exorcist: Believer, which disappointed fans and critics alike, Universal hopes to bring a fresh take on author William Peter Blatty’s story, which was adapted into the original The Exorcist in 1973.
The cast for Flanagan’s rebooted Exorcist movie is slowly building an all-star cast of actors, which is led by MCU veteran and newcomer to the DC universe, Scarlett Johansson. The latest addition to the cast is another veteran of superhero movies as well, who should add plenty of excitement to what this movie has to offer.
According to Deadline, Universal has cast Sasha Calle in an undisclosed role in Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist. Calle is coming off a highly praised appearance alongside noted Hollywood duo Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in their new Netflix movie, The Rip, in which she played Desiree “Desi” Lopez Molina. Calle is perhaps best known for her work in the superhero movie universe, after she played Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, one of the final movies released in the DC Extended Universe.
Sasha Calle Joins A-List Cast in Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Exorcist’
While Sasha Calle will add plenty of her own star power to this new chapter of The Exorcist, she is far from the only major name bringing her talents to the horror show.
A year ahead of its release, Johansson and Calle are only two of a few superhero movie veterans taking on the challenge of making a great horror film. They are also joined by Oscar-nominee Laurence Fishburne, who has a history in both the Marvel and DC Universes. He embodied Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White for Warner Bros. in Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016, and he moved to the MCU to play Bill Foster, a former friend and colleague of Michael Douglas’s Hank Pym, in Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018).
Elsewhere, Chiwetel Ejiofor will take his talents to the Exorcist franchise after appearing in the first two Doctor Strange movies as Baron Karl Mordo. As if that was not enough, Diane Lane, who played the infamous Martha Kent in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman alongside Fishburne, is also on the cast list. The only other actor confirmed for a role is the young Jacobi Jupe, who played Michael Darling in the 2023 Disney reboot, Peter Pan & Wendy, and had a role in Chloé Zhao’s eight-time Oscar-nominated 2025 movie Hamnet.
For now, none of these actors’ specific roles in Mike Flanagan’s Exorcist movie have been revealed, and there are no known details about the story or production timeframe.
The Exorcist is set to make its debut in theaters on March 12, 2027.
