FC Barcelona have officially confirmed a major setback ahead of their decisive Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid.
Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski has suffered a fracture of the left eye socket following the recent 4-1 victory over Villarreal.
The injury was diagnosed after medical tests carried out by the club’s medical staff.
Barcelona released a short but clear statement confirming the extent of the problem and his immediate unavailability.
“First team player Robert Lewandowski picked up an injury in the recent game against Villarreal. Tests have diagnosed a fracture of the left eye socket.
“He will miss the game against Atlético Madrid,” read a statement from the club.
What happened to Lewandowski?
The incident occurred late in the match, in the 88th minute. Lewandowski collided face-first with the shoulder of Villarreal defender Pau Navarro, who had blocked his path off the ball.
The Polish forward immediately showed signs of discomfort around his eye area.

Despite the pain, he continued playing and even managed to score Barcelona’s fourth goal into an empty net after being set up by Jules Kounde.
However, further examinations revealed the fracture, forcing him out of Tuesday’s crucial encounter.
His absence significantly weakens Hansi Flick’s attacking options.
Barcelona must overturn a 0-4 deficit from the first leg if they are to reach the Copa del Rey final. Losing their most experienced striker at such a key moment is a serious blow.
Lewandowski now joins a growing list of unavailable players.
Eric Garcia is suspended after being sent off in the first leg, while Frenkie de Jong, Andreas Christensen and Gavi remain sidelined through injury.
With Lewandowski ruled out, Ferran Torres becomes the only recognised striker available for the decisive clash at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona’s comeback mission was already difficult and without their leading forward, it becomes even tougher.
