Los Angeles’ Streams for Free on Tubi in March

An underrated epic sci-fi action movie is about to stream for free, and you need to check it out. Hollywood never gives up on the ‘aliens are invading Earth and only American soldiers can save the day’ sub-genre of sci-fi action. Independence Day is probably the biggest and best example, along with Mars Attacks, Edge of Tomorrow, and Cloverfield. But, in 2011, Hollywood attempted to milk that cash cow once again, and it resulted in one of the most divisive sci-fi epics in recent years. The movie might have flopped with critics, but it’s about to stream for free, so a new wave of viewers can decide for themselves whether it’s a hidden gem or just hot garbage.

Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Peña, Bridget Moynahan, Cory Hardrict, and Will Rothhaar all teamed up with director Jonathan Liebesman for 2011’s Battle: Los Angeles. As the title suggests, Battle: Los Angeles is about a battle in Los Angeles (mind blown!). When an advanced race of aliens attempts to conquer Earth, a squad of US Marines is all that stands between humankind and extinction. It’s an over-the-top, overly Hollywoodized plot that only works in the movies. But, for half of the viewers, it worked.

Battle: Los Angeles was torn apart by critics when it was released in theaters. The movie holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 37%. Even Roger Ebert gave it half a star, writing, “Young men: If you attend this crap with friends who admire it, tactfully inform them they are idiots.” Not stopping there, his scathing review continued, “Young women: If your date likes this movie, tell him you’ve been thinking it over, and you think you should consider spending some time apart.” However, half of the viewers are, apparently, “idiots” as the movie holds a divisive audience rating of 48% on RT. So, why not watch it and make up your own mind, especially as Battle: Los Angeles streams for free on Tubi in March.

‘Battle: Los Angeles’ Is an Entertaining, Big-Budget Sci-Fi Epic… What More Could You Want?

Don’t go into Battle: Los Angeles expecting an American version of District 9, which harshly examines race relations, apartheid, and abuse of power from government officials. Instead, go in expecting a big screen version of a Call of Duty campaign with aliens, and you won’t be disappointed.

As the title and its plot suggest, Battle: Los Angeles isn’t the most well-written movie ever made. However, it’s an incredibly fun and entertaining film that’s great for an easy weekend movie night. It won’t change your life, but you’ll be entertained for 116 minutes, while big explosions happen on the screen, US Marines fire never-ending ammo at invulnerable aliens, and, against the odds, save the world.

Will ‘Battle: Los Angeles 2’ Ever Happen?

As the title also suggests, Battle: Los Angeles could have been the start of a new sci-fi franchise. However, its box office wasn’t enough to persuade Hollywood to continue with more entries in the Battle: franchise. The movie grossed $211 worldwide, which isn’t bad, but it’s not a franchise-starting box office haul. Around 2011, the film’s cast hinted that more Battle: movies could take place in other major cities. However, news on a sequel has been radio silent for over a decade, so don’t expect the aliens to return for retribution anytime soon.
