Majority of Barcelona locker room wants Joan Laporta to return as president – report

The FC Barcelona presidential elections are a little over a couple of weeks away, with the voting set to take place on 15 March.

Joan Laporta, who stepped down from the position to recontest in the elections, finds himself going up against the likes of Victor Font, Marc Ciria, and Xavi Vilajoana in the battle for club presidency.

With the elections looming, journalist Victor Navarro reports that a majority of the Barcelona locker room is in favour of Laporta returning as club president.

The report states that several players have already signed ballots in favour of the former president, and there is strong support for his continuity in the dressing room.

Laporta formed a strong bond with the Barcelona locker room during his second run as the club president. So, it does not come as a surprise to see many players hoping for him to be re-elected.

Meanwhile, manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco, too, have shown support for Laporta by recently attending the launch of his book ‘Així hem salvat el Barça’ (‘This is how we saved Barça’).

Earlier today, a survey conducted by Mundo Deportivo among 300 club members also indicated that Laporta was the most popular candidate to be elected as president.

Laporta attracted 58.66% support among those surveyed, giving him a commanding advantage over the rest of the declared candidates.

Victor Font secured 20.33%, while Ciria and Vilajoana came in third and fourth, respectively, with 7.33% and 1.33% support.
