Interesting to read through these BBC Sport ‘neutrals’ comments, following on from Newcastle United winning 3-2 at home to Qarabat.
Tuesday night’s victory means it is a 9-3 aggregate win for United.
Eddie Howe and his players moving into the last 16 of the Champions League.
Exciting times.
The BBC Sport readers comments from neutrals, none from Qarabat FK fans, though one or two Newcastle supporters also contributing, as well as the odd Mackem…:
‘Well done NUFC. As an Arsenal fan who does not enjoy playing you I hope we stay well away in the KO stages.’
‘Congratulations to Newcastle fans but a big cheer for the Qarabag fans who turned up. Real supporters.’
‘Very disappointed that young Neaves didn’t get a chance to play at all, he deserves a chance to show what he can do!!
Could do better l would have thought than some of the players playing tonight.’
‘You feel a few more of the youngsters would have got a cameo if Newcastle had banged in 4 or 5 goals.
But both (Alex) Murphy and Shahar were far from the worst players on the pitch.’
‘Playing a 35 year old Tripper for like the 40th game in 3 months when we had such a huge goal difference just seems crazy. This is the sort of issues of man management some toon fans complain about and tbf, they’ve got a point.’
‘Amused how “neutral “ fans are commenting negatively on the manner Newcastle have progressed through a knock out round, to the last 16 of the Champions League, with only an aggregate score of 9-3.’
‘Maybe because they’re 11th in the league behind Everton, Brentford and Fulham and likely to stay there.’
‘Who do you support? You fool no one.’
‘A Sunlun fan in disguise. Good grief!’
‘Think Gordon and Bruno will want to play for a mid table club? Big mistake not to prioritise the league, amateurish management.’
‘I’ll tell you exactly what champions league will mean in a couple of months time. Money in the NUFC transfer fund.’
‘What has league performance got to do with their best ever accomplishment in the Champions League?
Have a pop at the league performance after league games, by all means, but you just sound petty when you skim over what they are achieving in the Champions League this season under articles about Champions League games.’
‘The league has moved on and we are getting left behind. Other managers have worked Howe’s tactics out, that’s obvious when we’ve getting beat by Brentford and sitting in 11th.’
‘We??? You are a Sunderland fan and fooling no one.’
‘Spot the bitter mackem troll.’
‘A demonstration that Newcastle’s squad really aren’t at the same level.as the first 11.
Disjointed, so many loose passes. Woltemade looks lost. Osula a headless chicken. Wissa a shadow of his Brentford days. Only Gordon, Tonali & Joelinton looked like they even cared today.’
‘Could be worse, you could play like my team Spurs’
‘Well done lads. Tie was won in first leg.
Motm Tonali .well done Alex.’
‘The next round is as far as Newcastle go. The toons will be exposed for the weak team they really are. Lucky to get so far.’
‘Some vinegar with those salty chips?’
‘In which games were we lucky? Unlucky not to go straight through to the last 16 more like.’
‘Ten English players made an appearance for Newcastle tonight.’
‘Woltemade is an absolute class player – the Germans know it, you don’t become their first choice national team striker unless you have a bit about you. And Howe knows it – that’s why he was happy to let the club spend considerable funds on him.
It’s been non-stop since he arrived but they’re working out how to use him on the fly. A proper planned pre-season will work wonders for him.’
‘The usual envious Mackems on here already. Fact is:
We’re in the Champions League. You’re not.
We have a team full of top internationals. You have a team full of nobodies.
We’re sold out every game. Your ground is STILL full of empty seats.
We’re happy with our manager and the progress of our team.
Whereas you… happy? It doesn’t show.
Most of all: We’re Newcastle United. You’re not.’
‘By the start of next season you will have no European football, a mass exodus of your best players – Joelinton, Guimares, Gordon & Tonali all leaving for CL football and Sunderland having finished above you in the league.’
‘That was Newcastles 150th game in Europe.
The mackems have got 150 games in league one though. Tee hee.’
‘Foot off the gas springs to mind. Understandable.
Still another good result for the Geordies in the end in Europe, 9-3 over 2 legs, impressive. Good luck in the next one.’
