James Cameron has once again chimed in on one of the biggest entertainment buyouts in recent Hollywood history. The Avatar director has not been shy about showing his love and dedication to the theatrical business in the age of streaming. He has now doubled down on his criticism of Netflix’s acquisition of Warner Bros, which he believes is the worst-case scenario.
In a letter revealed by CNBC, Cameron argued against the impending sale of Warner Bros. to Netflix, which he calls “disastrous” for the theatrical landscape. Read a portion of the letter:
“I believe strongly that the proposed sale of Warner Brothers Discovery to Netflix will be disastrous for the theatrical motion picture business that I have dedicated my life’s work to. Of course, my films all play in the downstream video markets as well, but my first love is the cinema.”
