Barcelona presidential candidate doesn’t rule out signing Bundesliga superstar: ‘We’re working on it’

With the election season in full swing, the FC Barcelona presidential candidates have not been shy in offering their promises to fans.

While Joan Laporta has vouched for continuity and the defence of the Barça badge, Marc Ciria wants to make widespread reforms with Lionel Messi at the heart of the project.

Meanwhile, candidate Xavier Vilajoana has promised some big-name signings, while retaining focus on youth development at La Masia.

Vilajoana promises Harry Kane signing

As Barcelona gear up for a busy summer, one of the club’s priorities is to sign a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

To that end, Vilajoana believes Barcelona can sign Harry Kane to replace Lewandowski if he wins the election.

In a social media post, the Barcelona presidential candidate even confirmed his management is working on a deal to bring Kane to Catalonia.

“Only when we don’t have the talent at home should Barça be able to go to the market and attract the best talent. Like Harry Kane: a player who connects with teammates, with talent and an eye for goal. We are working on it,” he said.

Kane has emerged as one of Barcelona’s candidates to replace Lewandowski, with his contract at Bayern Munich expiring in 2027.

Vilajoana appears to be keen on signing the Englishman, who has showcased stellar form in Germany. In just 131 competitive matches, he has racked up as many as 126 goals.

Vilajoana, though, reminded everyone that La Masia will remain the utmost priority should he win the Barcelona election.

“I always say that the first thing we must do is provide our youth academy with the necessary resources and give them the first opportunity to put them through their paces,” he concluded.
