Kim-Jae – Toney – Williams feature in Chelsea transfer news

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Kim Min-jae, Nico Williams and Ivan Toney that you guys could have missed today…

Speculation around the future of Kim Min-jae has intensified following claims from BILD that Chelsea are considering a summer move for the Bayern Munich defender. The South Korean centre-back, who arrived in Bavaria less than a year ago, is reportedly admired by key figures at Stamford Bridge as the London club seeks to reinforce its defensive options ahead of next season.

Kim, 28, joined Bayern a few windows ago after an exceptional title-winning campaign with Napoli, where he was widely regarded as one of Europe’s standout defenders. Although he made a bright start in Germany, competition for places has intensified and BILD reports that Bayern may be open to discussions should a significant offer arrive, though the club remains publicly committed to the player.

CHELSEA’s interest appears to stem from an ongoing desire to bring greater stability and leadership to their back line. The club has struggled for consistency at centre-half over the past two seasons, with injuries and tactical shifts leading to frequent changes in personnel.

Kim’s profile fits neatly into Chelsea’s recruitment vision under their current ownership: a physically dominant yet technically assured defender entering his prime years. His composure in possession, aerial ability and experience at the highest levels of European and international football make him an attractive proposition for a Premier League side trying to reassert itself both domestically and in European competition.

From an opinion standpoint, a move to Chelsea could be mutually beneficial—though not without risk. For the player, the Premier League offers a larger global platform and a fresh challenge after a somewhat inconsistent debut campaign in Germany.

Chelsea, meanwhile, would gain a defender proven in multiple top leagues and capable of forming the bedrock of a more stable back line.

However, questions remain about whether Kim would represent the decisive upgrade needed to transform Chelsea’s defensive fortunes. The club has cycled through several high-profile defenders in recent years without resolving its structural issues, many of which stem from midfield imbalance and tactical instability rather than individual shortcomings.

Adding another top-level centre-back helps on paper, but success would depend heavily on system cohesion and squad continuity—areas Chelsea have struggled with.

At this stage, there is no indication of formal negotiations, and Bayern are expected to resist any approach unless a substantial bid materialises. Still, reports of CHELSEA’s interest highlight their intent to be active again in the market, and Kim’s name is likely to remain prominent in early summer discussions.

Should the Blues decide to pursue him seriously, his transfer could become one of the Premier League’s most intriguing defensive storylines in the coming window.

CHELSEA CONTACTED OVER WILLIAMS

Intermediaries have reportedly sounded out Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool over a summer move for 23-year-old Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, who is reportedly ready to leave the Spaniards when the window opens up in a few months time.

Williams, 23, has continued his rapid rise in Spanish football this season, establishing himself as one of La Liga’s most explosive attacking talents. Known for his pace, dribbling ability and productivity from the flanks, he has also become a regular for Spain’s national team, with his performances attracting long-standing interest from clubs across England, Germany and Italy.

According to the report, the player is now open to a new challenge after progressing through Athletic’s academy system and breaking into the first team alongside his older brother, Iñaki.

While Athletic are traditionally reluctant sellers—particularly when it comes to homegrown stars—the club may be powerless if Williams chooses to activate his release clause, believed to be set at a substantial but attainable figure for Europe’s elite.

CHELSEA, who have monitored Williams for over a year, are said to be among the clubs recently briefed on the player’s situation. Liam Rosenior is reportedly eager to add further depth and unpredictability to his front line, especially on the wings.

Williams’ ability to play on either flank and his profile as a high-intensity, ball-carrying winger fit closely with Arsenal’s recent recruitment strategy targeting young, technically gifted talents.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool are among the clubs that have seen intermediaries approaching them to confirm that Nico Williams will be available for a move in the summer transfer window.

The Blues, however, are not alone in their interest. Clubs in the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A are also expected to enter the race, particularly given Williams’ age, ceiling and consistent performances.

Athletic, for their part, remain hopeful of persuading Williams to stay, offering improved terms and emphasising his importance to the club’s long-term project. But with the winger reportedly attracted by the prospect of Champions League football and the chance to compete for major trophies, sources suggest he is increasingly considering a move abroad.

The suggestion that Williams is prepared to depart is expected to intensify interest in the weeks ahead, potentially setting up a high-profile transfer battle for one of Europe’s most in-demand young stars.

As with many pre-window rumours, the situation remains fluid. But if Williams does choose to move on, his decision could become one of the defining storylines of the upcoming transfer market.

IVAN TONEY OPENS DOOR TO MOVE

Al Ahli striker and England World Cup hopeful Ivan Toney has refused to rule out a return to the Premier League after turning down January offers in favour of staying in Saudi Arabia, with a whole host of clubs including CHELSEA, Arsenal and Tottenham all linked.

Over 18 months on from his shock £40m move from Brentford to Al Ahli in August 2024, Toney revealed that despite having the opportunity to leave the club and rejoin a Premier League side, he’s enjoying life in Saudi.

Toney finished second to just Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the Saudi Pro League golden boot last season as Al Ahli won the Asian Champions League, before lifting the Saudi Super Cup in August. The 29-year-old netted 30 times across all competitions in his debut season in Saudi Arabia.

But now he has come out and opened the door to a return to the Premier League: “Never say never,” Toney told Sky Sports Newswhen quizzed on a potential return to England.

“I have goals I want to achieve here first, the club have signed me for a long period of time.

“I want to repay them and bring trophies. In football and life, you never know what’s around the corner. Who knows what the next step is?

“I’m comfortable here and like being here. I’m doing well, my numbers speak for themselves and I’m settled. I’m enjoying my football and don’t see why I’d leave to go back to where I was.”

Will Toney come back to the Premier League?

CHELSEA, Arsenal and Tottenham were very interested in Toney before he left the Premier League, they were all prepared to offer some big money in order to get him signed up, but that has now changed.

Even though all three clubs may want to improve that front line in the summer window, the fact that Toney has been out of the top level for a few seasons now suggests that if he does come back to the Premier League, it will be for a mid-level team, not one of the big clubs.

So even though a move back to the Premier League may happen, it will probably not be for the clubs that Toney believes he should join.
