Liverpool made a boatload of big-money signings in the summer of 2025.
Liverpool signed one of the best strikers in the EPL during the summer of 2025 in Alexander Isak. The big-money signing who arrived in red-hot form for a staggering £125m from Newcastle didn’t hit the live scores running right away.
With below-average numbers, just as Isak was beginning to get regular starts and also goal contributions, he suffered a terrible leg break in December during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The challenge described as ‘reckless’ by Arne Slot was inflicted upon by Micky van de Ven, and Isak has never played a match since. Reports then emerged that Liverpool were targeting a return somewhere around March for the Swedish international.
Latest on Alexander Isak injury
Three weeks ago, Isak returned to individual training for the first time, and it was reported that he would join the team in 3 weeks’ time.
And, as of today (17th Feb, 2026), everything’s been going as per plan in his recovery. Liverpool, a few days ago, even shared how well the rehab’s been going for Isak. A carousel of photos showed Isak hitting the grass in the indoor training facility, while also taking up drills. They captioned the post: ‘The rehab continues.’
It is still expected that Isak would return in March, with Slot expecting the Swede to feature for Liverpool this season.
As for Liverpool, they sit 6th in the EPL table, one position away from the UCL spots. They bounced back last week after an impressive 1-0 away win at Stadium of Light against Sunderland. It was the ‘Black Cats’ first home defeat of the season.
Now, with 42 points in 26 games, they next take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, with NFO also having a new manager in charge after Sean Dyche’s sacking.
