Dana Eden, an acclaimed Israeli producer and one of the co-creators of the Apple TV spy thriller Tehran, has died unexpectedly while filming the fourth season of the Emmy-winning drama in Greece. She was reportedly found dead at the age of 52 on Sunday (Feb. 15) in a hotel room in Athens, where she was residing during the production, prompting a formal investigation to be launched into the circumstances of her death.
As reported by Variety, no cause of death has been confirmed at the present time. However, Donna and Shula Productions – which Eden founded with Shula Spiegel – issued a statement to dispel “baseless” rumors that have surfaced on social media suggesting that Eden’s death was criminal or politically motivated. “The production company would like to clarify that the rumors suggesting a criminal or nationally motivated death are untrue and completely baseless,” the leading Israeli film and television production company asserted.
Israeli public broadcaster Kan, co-producers of Tehran, also commented on Eden’s death in a statement that acknowledged her significant contributions to the industry:
“We are saddened by the passing of our friend and partner in a long line of productions, series and programs at the Israel Broadcasting Corporation – Dana Eden. Dana was among the senior figures in the Israeli television industry and was a central figure in the creation and leadership of some of the corporation’s most prominent and influential productions.”
One of the productions that Eden was heavily involved with was espionage thriller Tehran, which returned to screens in January after a four-year hiatus. The highly popular and critically acclaimed series is full of twists and turns, as it follows Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity to help destroy Iran’s nuclear reactor. The third season debuted on Jan. 9, 2026, and immediately jumped to the top of the Apple TV global chart. The show was renewed for a fourth season back in December, with filming already underway on the next batch of episodes. Kan addressed the shoot in their statement, saying:
“The fourth season of the series [Tehran] is currently being filmed in Greece – a complex and significant production which Dana came to closely monitor. Her professional work, uncompromising commitment and love of creation have left a deep mark on the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation. Here we share in the heavy mourning of her family, friends and colleagues, and embrace her dear partner, our friend Shula Spiegel.”
