WARNING! THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT THE MASKED SINGER SEASON 14!The Masked Singer season 14 contestant 14 Karat Carrot has wowed everyone with his fantastic performances, and, although the panelists have made some good guesses about his identity, they’re not even close to figuring out who he most likely really is: Judge Greg Mathis. The Masked Singer season 14 welcomed back host Nick Cannon, along with panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora.
14 Karat Carrot entered The Masked Singer season 14 as a Wild Card contestant on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Night, singing a phenomenal version of “Hold On, I’m Comin'” by Sam & Dave. He followed that with an electrifying rendition of “Tainted Love” by Gloria Jones on Twilight Night.
So far, the Masked Singer panelists have guessed several different music legends for 14 Karat Carrot’s identity. After his first performance, Robin thought that he might be Al Green or Otis Williams from The Temptations, while Rita wondered if he could be Verdine White from Earth, Wind & Fire. Ken guessed that he was actor Morgan Freeman, but it was actually a joke.
During Twilight Night, the panelists guessed that 14 Karat Carrot was Lionel Richie (Ken), Jermaine Jackson (Jenny), and Ron Isley (Robin). However, they’re probably wrong because 14 Karat Carrot is most likely Judge Greg Mathis, who starred in the long-running Emmy-winning courtroom show, Judge Mathis.
The Masked Singer Season 14 Contestant 14 Karat Carrot’s Clues Told Judge Greg Mathis’ Life Story
In 14 Karat Carrot’s first clue package on The Masked Singer season 14 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Night, he told his life story. He began by saying that being a Wild Card was a little bit out of his comfort zone because he plays by the rules. However, 14 Karat Carrot then revealed that it wasn’t always that way because he used to be trouble.
14 Karat Carrot then admitted that he ended up hitting rock bottom and got locked away with no promise of a golden future. He was shown being led into a police van, handcuffed, and then in jail. 14 Karat Carrot shared that he realized that he was letting his family down, and that was no way to live. Therefore, he cleaned up his act. He said that he guessed that, deep down, he was always a good guy. As 14 Karat Carrot said this, he touched a monument of a female carrot that said, “Mom Karat.”
14 Karat Carrot’s story matches Greg’s perfectly. During his youth, he joined a gang at age 11. In addition, he was arrested several times as a juvenile delinquent, for purse-snatching, breaking-and-entering, and robbery. At age 17, he went to jail for nine months for a concealed-weapons charge.
However, unfortunately, while Greg was in jail, his mother, Alice Lee Mathis, visited him and told him that she’d been diagnosed with colon cancer. This led to the judge giving Greg an ultimatum: he’d either get his G.E.D. or jail time with early probation. He chose the G.E.D. Tragically, Greg’s mother passed away when he was in his third year of college.
Greg was born in Detroit, Michigan, and 14 Karat Carrot’s clue package had a reference to the city. It was a van that said, “Mowtown Landscaping.” This is because Detroit is the home of Motown.
14 Karat Carrot’s Masked Singer Clue Packages Referenced Judge Greg Mathis’ Career & Achievements
Throughout The Masked Singer season 14, 14 Karat Carrot’s clue packages have referenced Greg’s career. On Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Night, he stated, “Justice really is the balance between the carrot and the stick.” Justice referred to the fact that Greg is a judge. In addition, a police officer in a white bathrobe was shown, which was a nod to the fact that judges wear robes.
14 Karat Carrot was also shown writing graffiti on a building that read, “Longest Running.” This is because Greg is the second-longest running TV judge, behind Judge Judy Sheindlin, and the longest-running Black male host in daytime television history. A clue on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Night that said, “24K,” referred to his show, Judge Mathis, running for 24 seasons from 1999 to 2023. When the clue was revealed 14 Karat Carrot explained, “Well, I made a few bad judgment calls when I was younger. But now I’m living the golden life.”
On Twilight Night, a fountain with a large number 3 in it was a reference to the fact that Greg is one of the three biggest TV judges, along with Judge Judy Sheindlin of Judge Judy and Judge Marilyn Milian of The People’s Court. There was also a picture of 14 Karat Carrot that said, “Winning Image,” because Greg won an NAACP Image Award for his work on Judge Mathis.
Another clue was a gold star with 14 Karat Carrot’s name in it. 14 Karat Carrot explained, “They told me to shoot for the stars, and I landed on one in Hollywood.” This referenced Greg’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which he received on May 4, 2022.
On Twilight Night, a visual clue was a basket of vegetables that said, “FAMILY,” on it. This most likely referred to Greg’s reality TV show, Mathis Family Matters, which chronicles the Mathis family’s life.
14 Karat Carrot’s Masked Singer Twilight Night Clue Package Told Judge Greg Mathis’ Love Story
In 14 Karat Carrot’s Masked Singer Twilight Night clue package, he shared that he met his wife when he was 18. He saw her across campus and thought that she was “divine.” However, 14 Karat Carrot confessed that their first interaction was “fiery,” and they “did not see eye-to-eye.” He then revealed that he realized that the way to her heart was serenading her. When she heard 14 Karat Carrot’s voice, it did the trick, and they’ve been together ever since.
Greg met his wife, Linda, when they were students at Eastern Michigan University. They revealed on the Tamron Hall Show, (shared via YouTube), that they had a rocky start to their relationship because she and her friend spoiled a game of Three Card Molly for him that cost him money. He then had some harsh words for her friend, which she didn’t like.
However, Greg won Linda over by following her around the college campus and serenading her with songs such as “Bette Davis Eyes.” They eventually married on June 1, 1985, and had four children together. They’ve now been married for 40 years, despite hitting a rough patch in August 2024 when Linda filed for divorce. However, they reconciled a few months later in November 2024.
Although it’s only speculation right now, The Masked Singer season 14 contestant 14 Karat Carrot seems to be Judge Greg Mathis. The clues point in his direction and his singing voice also gives him away. Whoever 14 Karat Carrot turns out to be, he’s an extremely talented singer who has a high chance of making it to the finale and taking home the Golden Mask Trophy.
