Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall cherishes “amazing away support” after win over Fulham

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall cherishes the “amazing away support” after powering Everton’s 2-1 comeback victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Dewsbury-Hall scored the equaliser after 75 minutes, cancelling out Vitalii Mykolenko’s own goal in the first half. He also took the corner, which was punched into his own net by Bernd Leno, securing the Blues’ 10th win of the season.

“I said how amazing [the fans have] been this year,” said Dewsbury-Hall, speaking after the game. “Not an empty seat in there, singing the whole game, even when we were the second-best team in the first half.

“The scenes when we scored the goals and at full-time, that’s why they travel. That’s why it makes it so special when we can turn games around and get three points. 

“So, look, [it was a] really good mentality from the lads. Football’s a 90-minute game. We weren’t good in the first half, but we managed to change it in the second.

“It’s another amazing away day, which is something that we’ve been really good at this year.”

The Toffees were under the cosh in the first half with Fulham creating several chances and coming close to extending their lead on several occasions. They recorded nine shots inside Everton’s penalty area and even struck the woodwork.

However, David Moyes’ side emerged out of the half-time break as a much stronger unit and took the game to the hosts, picking up three vital points on the road.

“[It was] probably another game of two halves,” said Dewsbury-Hall. “I keep saying it recently, but it was. They were the better team first off. 

“There were a couple of stern words at half-time, and again, like last week, we came out second half and were way better. We were the better team pushing. And yeah, thankfully, we got the two goals to get us the three points.

“We just said, ‘Look, it’s not good enough. We know we’re way better than that and we need to show it.’ 

“And it’s just about rolling our sleeves up in the second half and just playing more like us, and we did that.

“You could see we were on the front foot from minute one, and yeah, it paid off in the end.”

The equaliser against Fulham was Dewsbury-Hall’s fifth goal of the season and his first since returning from the injury layoff. Everton’s number 22 would be delighted with converting the opportunity after missing a chance from a similar position in the previous game.

“It was a great little cutback from Myko. It’s funny because I literally had that exact same chance last week against Brighton and the keeper saved it. And I said to the lads, ‘If I get another one, it’s going in.’ 

“Thankfully, Myko put it on a plate for me, and I’ve managed to put it in. It gave us a good platform to go on and get the winner.”
