Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Christian Romero, Sandro Tonali and Mauricio Pochettino that you guys may have missed today….
Paul Scholes has admitted that he would “love” Manchester United to sign “pissed off” Tottenham star Cristian Romero, who has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few weeks.
Romero has made 152 appearances for Tottenham since joining the club from Atalanta in 2021, scoring six goals and helping the club to a Europa League title. But he has strongly hinted he has become unhappy with how the club is being run after Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Manchester City on February 1, in which he had to come off at half-time.
Despite his outburst, Frank kept Romero in his starting XI for Spurs’ trip to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. The Argentina international only lasted 29 minutes before he was sent off for a Red Card for the tackle on Casemiro, the eighth of his career.
Scholes is a big fan of Romero, and feels he would be an ideal addition to the ranks at Manchester United, The former Red Devils and England star said on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad and The Footballpodcast: “Do you know what? I love him. I love watching him play football.
“He’s pissed off at Spurs, isn’t he? He doesn’t want to be there. He’s having a go at the crowd, he’s having a go at the board, I think his head has checked out a little bit.
“But I would love him at Manchester United. I just love his character.”
After his red card over Man United, Frank did leap to his defence after the game: “For me, I think he is a leader. He is a young leader and he’s learning every day,” the Spurs boss told reporters. “I’ve said I used the example when I was 30 years old.
‘I thought I was on top of the world, but I was no way near the level I am today in terms of leadership and understanding things.
“And then when you have a player that’s playing with so much passion and aggression, things like that can happen. That’s not to say he shouldn’t learn from it, of course he needs learn from it, going forward.”
POCH SENDS STRONG MESSAGE
Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has now opened up and told the likes of Manchester United that he believes he will win the Premier League, amid speculation that the Red Devils are interested in hiring him in the summer window.
There has been some shock reports in the media which have claimed Manchester United are ready to bring AC Milan star Christian Pulisic back to the Premier League in a deal that could cost the club around £48 million.
Since the Manchester United board made the decision to let Ruben Amorim leave the club during the January window after a very poor last few seasons at the club, Michal Carrick has done a wonderful job in charge of the Red Devils over the past few weeks.
Man United are now back in the hunt for Champions League football, and the former Red Devil has got the club winning again, which looked like it wasnt going to happen towards the end of Amorim’s time at Old Trafford.
It’s unclear who is going to be in charge of the Red Devils heading into the 2026/2027 season, but Pochettino is a manager that Manchester United have admired ever since his Southampton days, and after he is done at the World Cup, they may tempt him back into club management.
No – amid all the speculation and rumours, Pochettino has now opened up and told the likes of Manchester United that he believes he will win the Premier League, speaking on The High Performance Podcast: “Yes (I believe I will win the Premier League).
“It’s really important. If you don’t believe, if you don’t have belief, that hunger and passion and fight, it’s difficult to achieve.
“The Champions League is amazing because it’s a dream, too, like the World Cup.
“But we really love English football; football was born here. We were so lucky to spend a lot of time at Wembley, which is an icon for us. It’s an amazing stadium.
“We are going to try. Unfortunately, in which club, I don’t know! Now, we are in our best moment as a coaching staff because we are still young, we have energy.
“I think I can be better because you can improve, but today I think we have the capacity and the knowledge, the balance to provide to any single club good things.”
TONALI MESSAGE SENT
Alan Shearer has told Newcastle that they should expect to lose their top stars like Manchester United target Sandro Tonali in the summer if they fail to qualify for Europe next year, with all sorts of rumours flying around.
Manchester United remain in the hunt for midfield reinforcements, with reports claiming that Newcastle star Sandro Tonali has emerged as a top target for the Red Devils as they will seek to replace the departing Casemiro at the end of the season.
Tonali has been a stalwart of Newcastle’s midfield in recent seasons since joining from AC Milan, and has really developed into a player that the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with in recent transfer windows.
Casemiro has already admitted that he will be leaving Manchester United when his current deal runs out at the end of the season, meaning that the Red Devils will need to delve into that transfer kitty and look to add another enforcer to the squad.
“Sandro Tonali hasn’t hit the heights he was at last season, but I guess what’ll happen is, if Newcastle aren’t going to qualify for Europe or be competitive in the Premier League, you’d expect other clubs will look at Newcastle and try to buy their best players,” Shearer told Betfair.
“Although it was a surprise in the January window, I think it’ll happen more in the summer if Newcastle don’t achieve what they have in the past few years. Top players want to play Champions League football, and we know there’s no real loyalty in football – I’m not saying Tonali will do anything like that, but we know if clubs don’t get into European places, other clubs will try and pick players up.
“Newcastle have to start winning games and go far in the FA Cup and hopefully the Champions League to try and rescue what, at the minute, certainly Premier League wise, has been a disappointing return.
‘I know we got to a semi-final and all those years ago we’d craved for that but then the money that’s been spent and put into the club and where the club wants to go to, at the minute it’s been disappointing.”
IcFootballnews Says….
There have been alot of clubs linked with Tonali, but considering Manchester United need a midfielder like him, maybe that would be the best move to make ahead of Arsenal, Chelsea or even Manchester City?
