The “Greatest Action Movie of All Time” That’s an “Absolute Classic” Lands on Free Streaming

The “Greatest Action Movie of All Time” That’s an “Absolute Classic” Lands on Free Streaming

Arguably, the most iconic action movie ever made is now streaming for free… and it’s not even Christmas! Nothing brings moviegoers together like one man (or woman) battling against the odds to save the person they love, fighting off the bad guys, and looking cool while they do it. There are countless heroes and action stars people can turn to for that sub-genre, with Arnold Schwarzenegger being a popular choice. However, when it comes to one man taking on the bad guys, there’s no movie more iconic than Die Hard. While most people watch the Bruce Willis-led action flick during the Holidays, this is your reminder that Die Hard can be enjoyed anytime of the year, especially when you can stream it for free.

Die Hard is streaming for free on Tubi. The iconic 1980s action movie was added to the free streaming platform on Feb. 1, alongside other action classics like Taken, Oldboy, and more. Die Hard should need little introduction to action fans. But, for the three people who have never heard of the movie, Bruce Willis leads as John McClane, a detective caught in the middle of a terrorist hostage situation on Christmas Eve. With outside help unavailable, McClane must take out the terrorists one by one, all while saving his failing relationship.

While Bruce Willis is iconic as McClane, it’s the late Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber who steals the show. Gruber is the leader of the terrorist group who take over Nakatomi Plaza. He’s ruthless, sarcastic, and the perfect adversary to Willis’ maverick detective. Die Hard also stars Bonnie Bedelia, Reginald VelJohnson, and William Atherton.

38 Years Later, ‘Die Hard’ Is Still an Action Classic

For a plethora of reasons, movies from the 1980s don’t always age well. Thankfully, Die Hard is one of the rare exceptions. After 38 years of fans arguing whether it’s a Christmas movie or not, people still can’t get enough of John McClane’s action-packed mission. The movie is a fan favorite on Rotten Tomatoes, holding a joint 94% critics and audience rating.

RT users praised everything from “Bruce Willis’ charisma” to the “amazing plot and visuals.” Some even proclaimed Die Hard to be the “greatest action movie of all time” and an “absolute classic.”

Why the ‘Die Hard’ Sequels Failed

Modern movie fans love nothing more than to complain about the constant wave of sequels, remakes, and reboots Hollywood keeps churning out, and for good reason. But Die Hard fans were doing it before it was cool. The first movie is an absolute classic, and even its first two sequels, Die Hard 2 and Die Hard with a Vengeance, are enjoyable movies. However, from Die Hard 4.0, fans knew something was wrong.

There are plenty of problems with Die Hard‘s later entries. However, the most egregious is the butchering of John McClane’s most relatable characteristic. McClane might be able to take on an entire office block of terrorists wearing nothing but a vest. But the first movies emphasized that he’s just a regular guy caught in a bad situation. But, from Die Hard 4.0, when he drives a police car into a helicopter, the movies, and McClane as a character, definitely jumped the shark.
