Frieren, having just released season 2, is naturally sitting comfortably in the streamer’s top 10, but two places above it at #4 sits an impressive isekai contender. Already known for tearing up the Crunchyroll streaming charts, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill is holding strong even a month after season 2 ended.

It can’t quite be overstated just how big Frieren’s season 2 return is. There’s already plenty of documented evidence of fan adoration for the series, including its dominant standing atop MyAnimeList’s all-time rankings for two years (with season 2 now #2), and its recent Anime Expo showing featured a packed auditorium of fans waiting out the door for its latest updates.
But Campfire Cooking is an impressive isekai series with plenty of love for it, with fans even making a game of its quirkier qualities like the blatant product placement across its run. It provides a fun glimpse into yet another wild gimmick in which its protagonist gets by in a strange new fantasy world, strongly representing Crunchyroll’s most saturated genre.

Still, there are nuances that must be considered here. Frieren drives significantly more discourse and online impressions, as well as having a global audience with its domestic viewership in Japan either catching it on TV via NNS, or across its multiple listed services. Plus, Crunchyroll doesn’t typically release viewership or time metrics on its most popular anime, beyond listed rankings.
Isekai Anime Continues to Dominate Crunchyroll Audiences
While the biggest names in isekai like Re:Zero, Overlord, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation may not currently be releasing new episodes, isekai on Crunchyroll continues to thrive. Recent shows like A Wild Last Boss Appeared! and Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None keep the formula with just enough shakeup to keep things interesting.
It’s especially compelling with newcomers continuing to muscle their way in, from new donghua like Lord of Mysteries to would-be isekai slop like Reincarnated as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon. Their premises vary from silly, to wildly creative, to genuinely compelling stories, and a worthwhile, less conventional escapist alternative to Frieren’s own inventive fantasy offerings.
