The 10 Best Movies in Theaters Right Now

The final month of 2024 will be bringing a couple of movies from different genres and for all tastes, and these, along with some of November’s most popular releases, are now playing in theaters. 2023 was a big year for cinema, and the streak continued in 2024. This year saw some big hits on the big screen from different genres, such as the action-comedy The Fall Guy, the drama Challengers, horror with Late Night With The Devil and Longlegs, and the action movie Furiosa, and more might join the list this month.

After November brought Robert Zemeckis’ Here, the horror movie Heretic, the Christmas movie The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, the fantasy musical Wicked, and Disney’s Moana 2, December will bring more variety to close the year with a bang. Kicking off December is a drama movie based on a literary classic, a horror comedy about Y2K, a horror comedy written by Nick Frost, a movie about werewolves, and a weird black comedy horror movie.

10 The Return

The Return Was Released on December 6, 2024

The Return is a drama movie directed by Uberto Pasolini. The Return is a retelling of Homer’s Odyssey, and it follows Odysseus as he washes up on the shores of the island Ithaca after fighting the Trojan War. However, after everything he saw and lived during the war, Odysseus is unrecognizable, and now his wife, Penelope, is hounded by many suitors to choose a new husband. Meanwhile, their son, Telemachus, is facing death at the hands of those who see him as a threat, and so Odysseus is forced to face his past so he can save his family.

9 Y2K

Y2K Was Released on December 6, 2024

Y2K is a disaster comedy movie directed by Kyle Mooney in his directorial debut, and it’s based on the Year 2000 problem, best known as Y2K. The movie follows loser friends Eli and Danny, who crash a high school party on New Year’s Eve 1999. There, Eli gets closer to his crush, Laura, but the night takes a wild turn at midnight. A bug causes all technology to come to life and turn against humanity, unleashing chaos and destruction everywhere.

8 Get Away

Get Away Was Released on December 6, 2024

Get Away is a British horror comedy directed by Steffen Haars and written by Nick Frost. Get Away follows an English family who goes on vacation to a remote Swedish island. Although it starts well, it quickly takes a dangerous and scary turn when they realize the island is inhabited by a serial killer – and, on top of that, the locals don’t want them around, and will go to lengths to get rid of them.

7 Werewolves

Werewolves Was Released on December 6, 2024

Werewolves is an action horror thriller directed by Steven C. Miller. During a supermoon, a latent gene in every human on the planet is triggered, transforming anyone exposed to the moonlight into werewolves and thus resulting in millions of deaths. One year later, a new supermoon approaches, and with that, more werewolf attacks, so everyone prepares the best way they can. Among them is Wesley Marshall, who has prepared and trained for a whole year to keep his surviving family safe at any cost.

6 Nightbitch

Nightbitch Was Released on December 6, 2024

Nightbitch is a black comedy body horror movie directed by Marielle Heller and based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder. Nightbitch is the story of an artist who is now a stay-at-home mother. Tired and bored, she looks for something new in her life and one day, she discovers some physical changes in herself, such as fur on different parts of her body and sharper teeth. As it turns out, she sometimes transforms into a dog, which, surprisingly, gives her a much-needed escape from her daily human life.

5 Moana 2

Moana Was Released On November 27, 2024

Moana is back with a new adventure across land and sea. Directed by David Derrick Jr., Hason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, Moana 2 is set three years after the first movie and sees Moana receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors. Moana forms her own crew and reunites with demigod Maui, and together, they all go into the far seas of Oceania to break the curse of the god Nalo and the hidden island of Motufetu.

4 Gladiator II

Gladiator II was released on November 22, 2024

Ridley Scott’s Gladiator has finally gotten a sequel, and it has Scott back as director. Set 20 years after the events of the first movie, Gladiator II follows Lucius Verus, grandson of Marcus Aurelius and son of Lucilla and Maximus. Lucius lives with his family in Numidia, but when the Roman soldiers led by General Marcus Acacius invade the town, Lucius’ wife is killed and he’s forced into slavery. Inspired by his father, Lucius fights as a gladiator under the teaching of former slave Macrinus, who plans to overthrow emperors Caracalla and Geta.

3 Wicked

Wicked was released on November 22, 2024

The musical Wicked has finally made the jump from the stage to the big screen. Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, who has been misunderstood her whole life due to her green skin. While attending Shiz University, Elphaba forms a profound friendship with Glinda, a fellow student who longs for popularity. When Elphaba and Glinda encounter the Wizard of Oz, their relationship reaches a crossroads as they begin to take different paths. The sequel, Wicked Part Two, will be released on November 21, 2025.

Red One was released on November 15, 2024

Red One is an action comedy Christmas movie directed by Jake Kasdan. Red One takes the audience to the North Pole, where, on Christmas Eve, Santa Claus is kidnapped. Head of security Callum Drift is determined to find him, but he’s forced to team up with hacker Jack O’Malley, who’s on Santa’s Naughty List. Together, Callum and Jack go on an unbelievable adventure where they come across other characters Jack once thought were only myths, and they are shocked when they learn who’s behind Santa’s kidnapping and where he’s being kept captive.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever was released on November 8, 2024

Christmas movies are kicking off this year in theaters with The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Directed by Dallas Jenkins and based on the 1972 novel of the same name by Barbara Robinson, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever follows the Herdmans, six juvenile delinquent siblings who find themselves taking part in the local church pageant during the holidays. The Herdmans are ready to unleash chaos at the pageant, but to their surprise, they will end up teaching the community the true meaning of Christmas.
