New Dracula Movie From Acclaimed Action Director Secures Strong Rotten Tomatoes Score Ahead Of Theatrical Release

A Dracula film directed by French filmmaker Luc Besson holds an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes. Besson is best known for helming such movies as Léon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, La Femme Nikita, Lucy and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

Besson’s Dracula was originally released in France in mid-2025 before becoming available in other countries around the world.

The film is currently holding strong at 72% on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its U.S. theatrical release on February 6. Critics have praised Dracula for its character and storyline depth, and called Besson’s adaptation of the iconic story entertaining, compelling and heartbreaking. The sets and the cinematography have also received high marks from critics.

Rotten Tomatoes hasn’t shared the Popcornmeter score yet, but based on audience reviews so far, moviegoers have commended the chemistry between the actors and applauded Besson’s ability to craft a new take on a story that everyone knows so well.

Caleb Landry Jones stars in Dracula as the titular vampire, with supporting roles played by Christoph Waltz, Zoë Bleu, Matilda De Angelis, Ewens Abid, David Shields, Guillaume de Tonquédec, Bertrand-Xavier Corbi, Salomon Passariello, Haymon Maria Buttinger and Raphael Luce.

Jones has starred in films like X-Men: First Class, Get Out and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, while Waltz is an award-winning actor whose roles in Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained earned him two Oscars.

Besson not only directed the film, but he also wrote the screenplay, with Virginie Besson-Silla serving as producer. Danny Elfman, whose music credits include Beetlejuice, Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mission: Impossible, Men in Black and Spider-Man, composed the score for Dracula.

So far, Dracula has earned $5.4 million at the box office, with Russia ($12.4 million), Italy ($6.2 million) and France ($5.3 million) being the highest-grossing countries. From July to November 2025, the film continued its global rollout, with theatrical releases in countries like Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, United Arab Emirates and Mexico.

The United States and Canada are up next on February 6.

Bram Stoker’s novel, which was first published in 1897, has been adapted numerous times over the years. Some of the most well-known versions of Dracula include F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu (1922), Tod Browning’s Dracula (1931), Terence Fisher’s Horror of Dracula (1958), Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) and the Francis Ford Coppola-directed Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992).

Gary Oldman and Christopher Lee are just some of the many actors who have played the iconic role across the character’s cinematic history.

Now Jones is following in their footsteps as Dracula, who, in the new film, sets out on a quest to find his reincarnated wife after her horrendous murder. However, he has to contend with antagonistic forces, including a priest played by Waltz.

Dracula will be released in U.S. theaters on Friday, February 6, 2026.
