Following the critical and financial success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), fans of the action-adventure franchise have eagerly been awaiting another sequel. Jumanji 4, or Jumanji 3 in the current run of films, is finally gaining traction after 7 years of speculation building up as to what the next installment will entail.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle introduced audiences to a star-studded new cast to carry on the franchise beyond Robin Williams’ original 1995 classic. Jumanji: The Next Level offered a natural, entertaining progression for the story, with the sequel ending on a tease of what the next movie could see the characters combating. After years of delays, audiences can finally rest easy because Jumanji 4 is finally on the way, and it will be hitting theaters far sooner than expected.
‘Jumanji 4’ Is Confirmed!
Production on the Sequel Is Underway
Production of Jumanji 4 is well underway. Dwayne Johnson announced the start of the sequel’s production on Instagram in Nov. 2025, in a video featuring the cast gathered for an ensemble table read. Since Johnson’s post, the movie has been in active production, with behind-the-scenes photos shared as recently as late January. Filming is expected to conclude around March 2026, but this timeline may change based on production.
Director Jake Kasdan is returning to helm the next installment, as the director was also behind Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level. Kasdan co-wrote the screenplay for Jumanji 4 with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who also co-wrote the previous films in the franchise, and hits like 2018’s Venom. Johnson referred to Jumanji 4 as the “final film” in his post, indicating it is intended to be the last entry in the current Jumanji trilogy. Despite fan speculation that the film’s title would be “Jumanji: The Final Level,” no official title has been announced for the next movie. Still, despite the sequel being in production, the film has a release date and a lengthy announced cast.
‘Jumanji 4’ Has a Release Date
Even with filming not slated to end for a few weeks, Jumanji 4 is scheduled for a theatrical release on Dec. 11, 2026. This release date gives the massive production a truncated post-production window, which could lead the studio to rush the movie to meet it or even push the sequel to a later date if it isn’t ready. Dec. 2026 is already crowded, with Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three currently scheduled for the same month, potentially creating an overabundance despite the holiday season. Jumanji 4 currently shows no plans to move its announced date, though the several months ahead could see that change.
The Cast of ‘Jumanji 4’
The Sequel Is Packed With Returning Stars
Jumanji 4 is bringing back just about every actor and character fans would expect. Johnson, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart are back as the central heroes of the movie that audiences got to know over the last two films. Their younger real-world counterparts are also returning, as Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain, and Morgan Turner are confirmed to be back. Other notable returning faces include Nick Jonas and Rhys Darby, who have both had parts in the last two Jumanji films, and Danny DeVito, who was in The Next Level.

A few names are still missing and may be revealed before production ends, or as a surprise upon the film’s release, if they end up being involved at all. Colin Hanks appeared in the last two Jumanji movies, and despite the actor’s name not being listed, he could make another small appearance, helping to tie the trilogy together. The Next Level featured Awkwafina, who has not been announced as part of the cast for the fourth film, but could also present another actor poised to return. The next sequel also hasn’t mentioned Danny Glover, who played Milo Walker in The Next Level alongside DeVito. The character chose a unique fate in The Next Level, which could explain his absence in Jumanji 4, but anything is possible with the film’s distinct rules.
What Is the Plot of ‘Jumanji 4’?
The Next Sequel Is Navigating a New Jungle
Jumanji 4 will be a direct sequel to 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level. Plot details are currently under wraps, but The Next Level ends with Spencer and his friends in the real world seeing animals from the games rampaging through the city. This ending tease looks to be where the next sequel will pick up, with the next sequel embracing concepts last seen in the 1995 original. Jumanji Movie on X shared a photo of the game characters trading lush greenery for a concrete jungle. The behind-the-scenes tease doesn’t offer much, but confirms a new setting for the next installment.
Further photos from the set of Jumanji 4 show Gillan next to a large Nutcracker soldier, with snow on the ground. With the movie targeting a Dec. release, the sequel could lean into holiday themes, with the film’s characters entering the world during the season. These photos may simply be part of filming over the holiday season, but they may also offer a glimpse into the story. Johnson teased an homage to the late Robin Williams with an Easter egg, though it’s unclear if that will prove to be a larger plot point. Further details on Jumanji 4 will be available when production wraps, and the film enters post-production, with an official title and trailer likely to tease fans in the coming weeks.
