“I might have done a knee slide”

“I might have done a knee slide”

Everton’s David Moyes bizarrely found himself in the referee’s book for sprinting onto the pitch to celebrate Beto’s last-gasp equaliser that earned the Blues an important point.

The Guinea-Bissau international came off in the 89th minute to score a 97th-minute equaliser to cancel out Pascal Gross’ opener to secure a 1-1 draw against Brighton at Amex Stadium.

Celebrating the moment, Moyes left his technical area to run on to the pitch and referee Chris Kavanagh showed him a yellow card.

“I hope you’re not going to call me ‘Pleaty’ going forward,” Moyes said after the game, drawing comparisons with David Pleat’s celebrations at Maine Road after his Luton side avoided relegation from the top flight on the final day of the 1982-83 season with a win against Manchester City.

“The difference is Pleat doesn’t get booked for it, they think it’s OK and everybody enjoys seeing the celebrations.

“We’re killing it. The managers can’t come out of their technical area to celebrate a goal, knee sliding, do things which give you people [the media] quite a bit to talk about.”

Asked if he would do it again, Moyes replied: “I bloody will do it again!

“Actually, if I’d been a bit more mobile, I might have done a knee slide. That would only have got me a yellow as well, so I might as well have gone the whole hog.”

Just like red cards, it would seem Edward @1, as I watched replay of the Chelsea/West Ham melee & counted 5 cases of deliberate physical contact by opposition players above the neck, but only 1 red card? The same punishment as applied to Gana for an altercation with a teammate?

Upon our appeal, they quoted the specific clause stating any physical contact above neck height was a straight red card? So the only conclusion can be they were 4 red cards short yesterday, for some apparent reason… I wonder what that can be???

Noticed today in the Spurs v Man City game that the Spurs player pulled Haalands hair in the build up to the City goal and was was only booked before the restart.
