Jamaal Lascelles closing in on late Newcastle exit – Sky Sports

Come the summer of 2026, a number of Newcastle stars seem set to depart the club at the end of their current contracts.

Fabian Schar has potentially already played his final game due to the injury he suffered against Leeds, Kieran Trippier remains a target of clubs in both Europe and Saudi Arabia, and Emil Krafth is an uncertainty as Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley shine at full back.

And Jamaal Lascelles is another one of these stars: still a senior figure within the squad, he’s only managed 19 minutes in the league this season, with zero minutes since the end of September.

But the 32-year-old still has some value and dependability about him, which has invited some strong interest from clubs within the Championship…

According to Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam, six Championship clubs are pursing a late deal for Newcastle United centre-back Jamaal Lascelles.

Included in the list of clubs who’ve been in contact are Leicester City and Birmingham: the Foxes have already loaned out Wout Faes to Monaco and would be in need of an experienced option.

Lascelles is out of contract this summer and has only featured in two short cameos all season, with Howe admitting after last night’s game that our former skipper is the one Mag who is likely to depart before Monday’s 7pm deadline.

Should Lascelles leave this window, it would bring to an end the longest tenure currently being served by a player at the club.

Joining from Nottingham Forest was back in the 2014/15 campaign, his leadership over the last decade has been simply second-to-none, and will be a big miss in Howe’s squad.
