President Donald Trump’s border czar Tom Homan received the Saturday Night Live parody treatment via Pete Davidson this weekend. In light of the recent Minneapolis murders of Renée Good and Alex Pretti, which continues to be white-hot news, the long-running sketch show cast Davidson as Homan upon his return to NBC, where his cartoonish incarnation failed to educate agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
The skit, titled “ICE Meeting Cold Open”, began with a crawl that read: “In response to the chaotic situation in Minnesota, President Trump ordered White House border czar Tom Homan to travel to Minneapolis and take control of the operation. Upon arrival, he met up with ICE unit commanders to clarify the mission objectives.” Balded and bespectacled, Davidson’s caricature asked his subjects when the correct time would be to use force out in the field. “Right away,” somebody replied, which was met by: “No, think of the opposite…” as another agent suggested “preemptively.” Homan proceeded to inform his listeners that it was “kind of a trick question, because we actually don’t want to use force. Remember, the job, ultimately, is about keeping America safe from… what?” A confused agent responded: “This could be wrong, but, Don Lemon?”
SNL‘s next target was Greg Bovino, who in real life preceded Homan as the boss of the Minnesota job. Pointing and laughing at Bovino’s infamous Third Reich-esque uniform, Davidson’s latest character went on to state:
“I’m sure a lot of you are wondering why Greg Bovino, the last guy, was dismissed. I want to stress that it wasn’t because he did a bad job, or publicly lied about the shooting of an American citizen, or even, uh, dressed like a Nazi. It was that he was filmed doing those things, and the president [doesn’t] like that…”
Reference to Tom Homan’s Alleged Bribe
Back in September 2024, the 64-year-old, who also served under Barack Obama and Trump’s first administration, was allegedly caught on video receiving $50,000 in cash from undercover FBI agents impersonating business executives. The feds were investigating reports that Homan had been accepting bribes from border security firms in exchange for government contracts if Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign proved successful. Although the Department of Justice ultimately dropped the case due to insufficient evidence, this didn’t stop the latest SNL episode from rubbing salt in the wound.
“Look, I’m Tom Homan, okay? I’m the separating-families-at-the-border guy. I’m the guy on film taking a $50,000 bribe guy, and you are all making me look like the upstanding, reasonable adult in the room. That’s crazy. The situation out there has been rough, and we need to lower the temperature, so let’s get out there. Let’s show some restraint. Let’s do our job without violating anyone’s rights as Americans. Can you do that?”
As you’d expect, a loud “no” was fired back at Homan, who finished the meeting off with: “Well, I had to ask. Maybe just try not to get filmed.”
