A new teaser trailer for Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence has arrived online, offering a look at the “splatstick” antics coming up in the forthcoming film. The feature is the fifth installment in the 47-year-old horror-comedy franchise overall, but serves as a reboot of the cult classic satire, given the length of time that has now passed between entries. The last movie in the zany series was released in the early ’90s, which means the tomato-riddled tale was ripe for a fresh interpretation to be unleashed on today’s audiences.
The trailer for Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence (shared below) is, as you would expect, absolutely bonkers. The titular tomatoes are back, and they mean business, having developed “organic intelligence” that makes them smarter and more savage than previous iterations. The story pits the produce against “AI’s best and brightest,” leading to larger-than-life chaos and a satirical showdown of pulse-pounding proportions. The teaser also introduces a new generation of characters, including a detective, a soldier, a politician, a news anchor, and “a wise sage,” who will have to rally together to fend off their fruity foes.
The purpose of the preview is to let people know about a special pre-release screening of the film that is taking place on Feb. 20 aboard the USS Midway Museum in San Diego. Several scenes were filmed on the USS Midway, making it a fitting spot for an early sneak peek, but those who are interested in securing a ticket to the one-night-only experience will have to be quick, as the historic aircraft carrier has limited capacity, per the website for the screening. All proceeds from the event will benefit Freedom Park at Burnham Navy Pier.
