Guy Ritchie is teaming up with Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Henry Cavill on his next movie In the Grey, and after more than a year since its original release date, the action thriller has finally been dated for Apr. 10, 2026.
In The Grey follows a covert team of elite operatives who live in the global shadows, as comfortable wielding power and influence as they are automatic weapons and high explosives. When a ruthless despot steals a billion-dollar fortune, the team is sent to steal it back on what would be, for anyone else, a suicide mission. What begins as an impossible heist gets much worse, spiraling into an all-out war of strategy, deception, and survival.
The movie is written and directed by Ritchie, with Cavill being joined by Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza Gonzalez, Kristofer Hivju, Fisher Stevens, and Rosamund Pike. Having originally been slated for release in January 2025, just months after The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, late in 2024 the film was removed from schedules, with Lionsgate saying at the time that the movie was “not quite ready.” Some suggested that the delay was due to the pair’s previous collaboration failing to draw in audiences during its theatrical release, although it has since redeemed itself on streaming platforms.
Speaking about the upcoming movie, President of U.S. Distribution for Black Bear, Benjamin Kramer, said: “Guy is one of the all-time greats when it comes to creating action as fun as it is gripping. In the Grey features every ounce of his trademark style and wit, not to mention a hugely talented cast led by Jake, Henry, and Eiza. We are thankful to our partners at Lionsgate, whose flexibility and collaboration have been instrumental in bringing this together. We look forward to continuing to work with them as we bring this great film to audiences.”
Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill Have Both Been Extremely Busy Recently
Since their collaboration on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Ritchie and Cavill have had plenty of projects added to their own personal slates.
Ritchie released Apple TV movie Fountain of Youth, an action adventure movie with John Krasinski that has never really left the streamer’s Top 10 since it was released, and another Black Bear release, the black comedy Wife & Dog, will also be coming later this year. The prolific director has also had a hand in the TV shows Mobland, The Gentlemen, and new detective series Young Sherlock, as well as the documentaries The Diamond Heist and the upcoming Gracie.
While Cavill has not been seen in anything new since his cameo appearance as a Wolverine variant in Deadpool & Wolverine, the former Superman star has been prepping his future slate, which includes the upcoming Enola Holmes 3, Voltron, his remake of Highlander, and a Warhammer 40,000 series for Prime Video.
