First Trailer for Boots Riley’s ‘I Love Boosters’ Revealed

Film distributor Neon has released the first teaser trailer for I Love Boosters, the latest movie from writer and director Boots Riley. The new trailer came with a brief synopsis that reads as follows: “A crew of professional shoplifters take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven. It’s like community service.” The short description of the movie fits the mood and tone of the teaser trailer, which highlights its impressive cast. Starring Keke Palmer, Demi Moore, Alexa Demie, Naomi Ackie, and Will Poulter, I Love Boosters seems to be in line with the vivid and intense aesthetic of Riley’s last film, Sorry to Bother You.

The movie will focus on the group of boosters who go by the name of the Velvet Gang, with the group robbing high-end fashion stores and then reselling the merchandise that they get away with. The job gets more dangerous when a fashion icon played by Demi Moore becomes determined to stop the Velvet Gang from continuing this streak of robberies, no matter the cost. I Love Boosters is set to release on Mar. 22, 2026, and will also have its world premiere at the SXSW 2026 Film Festival. Neon has done an excellent job of keeping details of the film under wraps, especially since the project has also been described as a sci-fi comedy and there are no indications in this first teaser for the first part of that genre description. Sorry to Bother You had its own inspired twist halfway through its runtime, which means that fans of Riley’s work should expect the unexpected with this next project.

‘I Love Boosters’ Is the Long-Awaited Second Film From Boots Riley

Although there isn’t a lot known about the movie, Boots Riley’s brief filmography speaks for itself, along with his work in music as a songwriter and producer. What is most exciting about the film is how close it is to releasing (only two months away) after the first teaser trailer was uploaded online. It will be interesting to see initial reactions out of SXSW in March, with the movie getting a wider release only a week after it premieres at the film festival.

I Love Boosters will be Riley’s sophomore feature, and it has been a long time coming. Other than the 2023 series I’m a Virgo, Riley hasn’t made a feature film or a major project since 2018.
