January 23 – The Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) has taken a step forward in its youth development ambitions after being awarded one-star status under the AFC Elite Youth Scheme.
The designation follows an on-site visit by members of the AFC Youth Panel, who spent time at the FFC headquarters assessing Cambodia’s Youth Development Master Plan for 2025–2030 and holding a series of meetings with the federation’s technical and administrative leadership.
According to the AFC, the master plan stood out for its clear structure and joined-up approach, with close alignment between the federation’s technical department, its network of provincial academies and the National Academy.
Panel members also noted tangible progress since the FFC’s initial submission, particularly around facilities, with upgrades already underway and further refurbishment and new builds planned in line with AFC benchmarks.
Cambodia’s nationwide development footprint was another key factor in the assessment. Youth academies now operate across all 25 provinces, giving the federation a broad platform for talent identification. Particular attention was paid to the Bati National Academy in Takeo province, which has emerged as a central performance hub within the FFC’s ‘Find-Train-Play’ model.
While one-star status is an early rung on the AFC’s youth development ladder, the panel’s findings suggest Cambodia has put down a clearer framework and infrastructure base from which to build, as it looks to strengthen pathways for young players over the coming years.
FFC President Sao Sokha described the recognition as a milestone. “Receiving the AFC one-star status is a proud moment for Cambodia,” he said. “Our Youth Development Master Plan 2025–2030 is built on a unified national philosophy and a deep commitment to character building.
“By establishing a structured pathway that reaches talented players in every province, we are ensuring that no potential is left undiscovered.”
