Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Ashanti Akpan, Kaiden Wilson and Douglas Luiz that you may have missed today…
Chelsea have now come out and revealed that they can confirm midfielder Ashanti Akpan has completed a permanent move to Newcastle United this January transfer window.
The Blues posted on the club website: ‘The 20-year-old midfielder first joined CHELSEA at the age of seven. During that time, she won the FA Youth Cup in 2021/22 and the FA WSL Academy Cup in 2022/23.
‘In March 2023, an 18-year-old Akpan made her senior debut for Chelsea, coming off the bench as a second-half substitute in a 3-1 Women’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Reading.
‘Akpan spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Birmingham City, where she played 15 games before moving on loan to Southampton in summer 2025, making 13 appearances with the Saints in WSL 2 during the first half of the campaign.
‘On the international stage, Akpan has represented England at all youth levels, while also captaining the Under-19 squad during her early career with the young Lionesses. In April 2025, she made her debut for the Under-23s when coming on as a substitute against Spain.
‘The midfielder now makes the move north to Newcastle United, joining the WSL 2 side on a permanent basis.
‘Everyone at CHELSEA would like to wish Ashanti the very best for the future as she begins a new chapter in her career.’

Just like the mens team, Chelsea have a number of talented young players that need to make the move away from the club in order to further their career, Akpan needed to leave the club.
This move to Newcastle should give the midfielder more of a chance to prove herself in the WSL and make a new impact, it is a very good decision to make the move and the Toon have signed a very solid player.
And for CHELSEA , they get some funds to maybe improve the squad if they want this January
DOUGLAS LUIZ TALKS
Shock reports in the media have arrived this weekend claiming that Chelsea are very much interested in bringing Douglas Luiz to the club until the end of the season.
Luiz is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest where has made eight Premier League appearances so far this season, but CHELSEA are now seeking to hijack that loan and bring Luiz to Stamford Bridge to provide them with additional cover in central midfield
Talks between Chelsea and Juventus are said to have been opened, and Luiz is open to the move, but journalist Fabrizio Romano insists the Blues will only move forward with the deal if there is no obligation to buy the midfielder in the summer.
‘Chelsea have made contact with Juventus to ask about Douglas Luiz,’ Romano said on his YouTube channel. ‘So now club-to-club talks are starting but let’s see because it’s still initial conversations.
‘Chelsea Enzo, Moi Caicedo and Andrey Santos but they want one more and Douglas Luiz on a loan deal from Juventus is a concrete possibility.
‘The player is open to joining Chelsea, so now it depends on CHELSEA and Juventus to try and reach an agreement. Chelsea are only interested in a loan deal, Chelsea don’t want any obligation-to-buy element.
‘They don’t want to be forced to buy Douglas Luiz in the summer. If they can do a deal on loan for the next six months, Chelsea would be happy to proceed. Otherwise, if these conditions are not right Chelsea will leave the conversation.’
IcFootballnews Says…
If CHELSEA really wants Luiz, if they believe that he will add to the squad, then they will get this transfer deal done. But the fact that the midfield at Chelsea is stocked, it does not make sense for the Brazilian to make this switch.
If he is barely playing where he is now, a move to Chelsea will not help that is for sure.
AKPAN MAKES MOVE
Chelsea have now announced and revealed that Academy defender Kaiden Wilson has signed a new contract with the Blues, keeping him at the club until 2030.
The Blues posted on the club website: ‘Wilson joined CHELSEA at Under-14s level from grassroots football and has progressed through the Academy age groups, continuing his development as a defender.
‘During the 2023/24 season, Wilson was an important part of the Under-18s side which won the southern section of the Under-18 Premier League.
‘He continued his progress during the 2024/25 campaign, becoming a consistent presence at the back for our Under-21s. In December of that season, he was among a group of Academy players selected to travel with the first team for Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League fixture against Astana in Kazakhstan.
‘This season, Wilson has remained a reliable performer and has made 17 appearances across Under-21s competitions, featuring in the Premier League 2, the Premier League International Cup and the EFL Trophy.
‘Congratulations, Kaiden!’
IcFootballnews Says…
Chelsea have one of the bet academies in word football, they are constantly signing the very best in the world and handing them long-term contracts, so the news that Wilson is the latest young star to sign a contract is great news for the lad.
He must be buzzing that CHELSEA have made the decision to hand him this contract, he is probably also hoping that he is not like one of the many other young stars that have been shipped out on loan all over the place for the next few years.
It will be interesting to see if he gets an opportunities under boss Liam Rosenior over the next few years, but for now, he can be happy with the news that a deal has been struck and he can work hard trying to becoming a top level professional footballer.
