9 Most Important Details to Remember for ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4

9 Most Important Details to Remember for ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4

With Bridgerton Season 4 finally on the horizon, there are several essential details viewers will need to remember in preparation for the upcoming installment. The highly anticipated Bridgerton Season 4 will see Benedict Bridgerton take the lead, continuing the show’s ongoing pattern of following one of the Bridgerton siblings’ greatest love stories. After Colin and Penelope’s dramatic and exciting journey in Season 3, audiences can’t wait to watch Benedict find his own diamond of the marriage season.

Bridgerton‘s cast will once again change in Season 4, with Yerin Ha joining as Benedict’s love interest, Sophie Baek. While this will be a fresh story with some new characters, there have also been plenty of juicy events in Bridgerton‘s past installments that will be relevant to Season 4. From Queen Charlotte knowing the truth about Lady Whistledown to the deadly fates of more than one character, there are many important things to remember before sitting down to watch Bridgerton Season 4, Part 1 when it drops on Netflix on Jan. 29.

Penelope Has Been Revealed as Lady Whistledown

Netflix

One of the biggest moments from the end of Season 3 was that Lady Whistledown’s identity was revealed. Lady Featherington and Colin quickly learned of this fact shortly after Penelope got engaged to her childhood love, and of course, Eloise had been aware of this for quite some time. However, by the end of Season 3, everyone in attendance at the ball, including Queen Charlotte, knew who Lady Whistledown really was.

Thankfully, Penelope was forgiven for her past actions, and as the Season 4 trailer shows, she is still very much a prominent member of society. Penelope’s speech was astounding, and it made sense that those who surrounded her managed to see her point of view, despite what she may have written about them.

Cressida Lied About Being Lady Whistledown

Penelope wasn’t the only one who was revealed as Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton Season 3. A major storyline in the latter half of Season 3 focused on Cressida Cowper pretending to be the enigmatic writer, which created a lot of tension. Her new friendship with Eloise came under strain, especially because she was aware that Penelope was Lady Whistledown and not Cressida. Cressida even blackmailed Penelope for money after she learned this for herself.

Cressida’s family was greatly affected by her lies, too. Cressida’s parents were embarrassed and ashamed, and her position in the marriage market became extremely fragile. After Penelope revealed the truth, Cressida left town with her aunt, and the proposal she’d received from the decrepit Lord Greer was rescinded. Cressida’s fate was left unclear at the end of Season 3, and while she is currently missing from the Season 4 cast lineup, this doesn’t mean the character won’t be mentioned.

Penelope and Colin’s Son, Elliot, Is the New Lord Featherington

Following the death of Penelope’s father at the end of Bridgerton Season 1, Portia had been desperately seeking out a new Lord Featherington to ensure her and her daughter’s financial and social stability. In Season 3, Philippa and Prudence both got married, to Albion Finch and Harry Dankworth, respectively. After pressuring her children to produce an heir, there was still a lack of babies in the picture, with one Featherington sister initially failing to understand how conception worked, and the other finding the act distasteful.

That was, at least, until the Season 3 finale. All three Featherington sisters were seen as mothers in the last moments of the final episode. While Philippa and Prudence had daughters, Penelope gave birth to a son: Elliot. This made baby Elliot not only a Bridgerton but also the new Lord Featherington. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out in Bridgerton Season 4, especially now that there is a new Lord Featherington, as well as the fact that Penelope’s riches as Lady Whistledown can help keep the family secure.

Francesca Married John Stirling and Met Michaela

Bridgerton Season 3 saw Francesca meet and marry John Stirling, also known as Lord Kilmartin. There was an immediate spark between the two, and they bonded over their love of music and growing up with more reserved personalities. However, avid readers of the Bridgerton book series know that Francesca’s first love story will end in heartbreak as John is set to die. Bridgerton made a huge book change when it introduced John’s cousin, Michaela, who was originally Michael in Julia Quinn’s series. There was an immediate attraction, implying Francesca and Michaela will have a romance in the future, just like in the books.

Audiences are currently debating which story developments will occur in Season 4. While it’s known that Benedict will be the lead in the latest installment, it can be assumed that other overlapping events related to the other siblings will happen, too. John could die in the upcoming episodes, which would set up the events for Francesca’s story, who has recently been confirmed as the lead of Bridgerton Season 5 or 6 (with Eloise being the other sibling).

Eloise Left for Scotland With Francesca

At the end of Bridgerton Season 3, Eloise decided to go to Scotland with Francesca and her new husband. Eloise made a point of telling Benedict that she’d be back the following year, and Violet said she wouldn’t let her daughter miss the Masquerade ball. From the Season 4 trailer, audiences know that Eloise, Francesca, and John will all return to the Ton for this prestigious event.

Eloise’s independence has been an integral part of her characterization from the very beginning. Unlike her sisters, Bridgerton‘s elaborate dresses and the Ton’s marriage-obsessed society have never been a priority for her. Eloise always wanted to change the world, despite her limitations as a woman in the Ton’s society, and this was why she chose to join Francesca in Scotland. It’ll be interesting to see how Eloise’s time in Scotland will have changed her in Season 4, especially as she is also one of the potential leads for Season 5.

Marina Is Alive (For Now)

Marina Thompson created quite the fuss in Bridgerton Season 1. The Featheringtons’ cousin was sent to the Ton to find a husband, and she was even engaged to Colin for a brief time before her illegitimate pregnancy was made public knowledge. Marina still loved George Crane, the father of her twins, but after losing contact with him while he was at war, his brother, Philip, arrived and shared the news of his death. Philip proposed to Marina out of honor, which she eventually accepted after Lord Featherington unexpectedly died.

After she married Philip Crane, there was very little mention of Marina in Bridgerton, except for when Colin briefly visited her in Season 2. However, book readers knew Marina’s horrid fate as soon as she appeared in the show. Like John Stirling, Marina Crane is another Bridgerton character who is set to die. Eloise’s romance story will be with Philip after he is widowed, or at least, this will be the case if the Netflix show decides to follow these book events.

Anthony and a Pregnant Kate Went to India

Audiences were generally frustrated with the lack of Anthony and Kate in the last installment, and not just because they didn’t have any steamy Bridgerton moments in Season 3. In “Tick Tock,” the pair returned from their honeymoon for a second time, but with an additional family member in tow. While they kept it quiet at first, the rest of the Bridgerton brood eventually learned that Kate was expecting a baby, although it was slightly overshadowed by Cressida Cowper suddenly declaring she was Lady Whistledown.

Anthony decided he wanted to see Kate’s village in India before they became parents, and he convinced his wife that they could prepare for the birth there. While it was unclear exactly when, Kate and Anthony departed for India at some point after Colin and Penelope’s wedding. Both Kate and Anthony have been confirmed to appear in Bridgerton Season 4, and while it’s currently unknown whether they’ll be there from Episode 1 or not, viewers know that they won’t be returning alone.

Violet’s Romance Storyline With Lady Danbury’s Brother, Marcus

In the Bridgerton Season 3 Episode “Forces of Nature,” the show introduced Lady Danbury’s brother, Marcus Anderson. Quickly after arriving in the Ton, Marcus caught Violet Bridgerton’s eye when he returned her dropped glove on the promenade, much to Lady Danbury’s frustration. Audiences who have also seen Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will know that Violet has always held a very special place in Lady Danbury’s heart. Despite having an affair with Violet’s father decades previously, the Bridgerton matriarch still has a solid friendship with Lady Danbury.

Throughout Season 3, the connection between Violet and Marcus became harder to ignore. Not only was Lady Danbury aware of it, but several of the Bridgerton siblings were, too (at least they were after Eloise pointed it out). By the end of Season 3, Lady Danbury had seemingly given her approval of the pair, although Violet and Marcus had also agreed their own personal affairs needed to be sorted before they made anything official.

Benedict Didn’t Want to Commit to Tilley Arnold

Throughout Bridgerton so far, Benedict’s story hasn’t been the most eventful, at least not compared to some of his other siblings. However, Benedict will now take center stage in Season 4, with Yerin Ha’s Sophie Baek joining the Bridgerton cast as his love interest. While every Bridgerton sibling will eventually fall in love, Benedict will need to go through some serious character development in the upcoming installment for it to be realistic. Benedict has famously been a “rake” since the start of the show, frequently having sexual encounters with various members of society and different genders.

In Season 3, he had a relationship with both Lady Tilley Arnold and her friend, Paul Suarez. However, after sharing a bed with both men, Tilley realized she didn’t want to share Benedict, and so asked him to make some form of commitment to her. Alas, Benedict turned her down because he enjoyed his freedom, and he wasn’t ready to give that up yet. Of course, this will change at some point in the upcoming Season, but it’s important to remember this detail when he first meets Sophie.

Many viewers will be rewatching Bridgerton in the lead-up to Season 4. Although there is plenty of Ton gossip for audiences to remind themselves of, Bridgerton Season 4 will be even more enjoyable to watch after refreshing their memories. Are there any other major plot points in Bridgerton that will potentially be relevant to the upcoming Season 4, or any moments from the books that you’re predicting will (or not) be included? Bridgerton Season 4, Part 1 arrives on Netflix on Jan. 29, with Part 2 dropping on Feb. 26.
