Everton are reportedly eyeing a move for Bayern Munich’s Sacha Boey to reinforce the right-back position, according to reliable German reporter Christian Falk.
Boey, signed from Galatasaray in 2024, failed to cement a regular starting spot at the club. He also had a disagreement with manager Vincent Kompany in recent weeks after the manager wanted to bring him on as a substitute in a game, but Boey wasn’t ready.
With that being said, it is believed that Boey feels comfortable in Munich, where he’s on a hefty salary and doesn’t wish to leave the club in January.
“Everton, Marseille and Lyon hold interest in Sacha Boey. There is interest, especially from France! But Boey doesn’t want to move! So everyone is a little irritated. But the fact of the matter is he’s currently earning a lot of money at Bayern. They also paid a big transfer fee for him. I don’t know why, but he’s feeling confident in Munich,” reported Christian Falk.
The right-back slot has been a headache for the Toffees. Jake O’Brien, a centre-back, has been Everton’s first choice in that position since David Moyes returned a year ago. While O’Brien’s defensive reading is excellent, he hardly looks comfortable in the buildup and in advanced positions.
In recent games, though, Nathan Patterson has done quite well as a right-back after O’Brien returned to his natural position to replace the suspended Keane. Patterson, however, has been with the club since 2022 and doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to reliability. Club captain Seamus Coleman is also in the twilight of his career and has suffered from persistent injury problems of late.

I also think Patterson has done quite well for us and, for me, he was one of the better players against Sunderland in the FA Cup (I can hear the comments of: “That wouldn’t be hard!”). I was close to his side in the first half and thought he did well.
Like all full-backs they need support when defending, especially if they decide to overlap to support the attack and the attack breaks down. I would give him time and hope he beds in and stays injury-free.
