The newest update about one of the DC Universe‘s upcoming movies makes one Batman dream seem as though it’s even further away than seemed possible beforehand. With Batman’s movie roster set to expand with more additions to The Batman series and a DCU solo Batman movie, the future has in some ways never looked brighter for the Dark Knight and his world.
The possibilities seeming endless in terms of what the Caped Crusader’s next films could involve has meant that hopes have risen for many underused corners of the hero’s lore to be adapted on-screen soon. That said, the newest update about one Batman spinoff film suggests we’re still a long way away from getting one fan dream for a live-action movie.
The Newest Update About Dynamic Duo’s Place In The DC Universe Means The DCU’s Will Get Several Characters Far Later In Its Run
Dynamic Duo – which centers on the stories of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the first and second characters to hold the Robin mantle in the comics – has existed in some murky waters for a considerable portion of the time the public has been aware of it.
When Dynamic Duo was initially announced, audiences were divided about whether the film would be a part of the official DC Universe timeline, or an Elseworlds installment like The Batman, which would instead exist in a different universe altogether. Though the approach to Dynamic Duo suggested it was an Elseworlds project, August 2025 brought reports that the film seemed as though it could be DCU canon, having appeared in an official post on DC’s website that listed movies set to be part of the mainline DCU.
This landscape makes James Gunn’s confirmation that Dynamic Duo is not being rewritten to fit into the DC Universe – which appears to also confirm that it isn’t part of the DC Universe to begin with – all the more noteworthy, as it clears up some details about the upcoming DC film.
This also means we likely will have to wait far longer to see the various characters who’ve held the Robin mantle in the mainline DCU, as the only Robin that’s been teased for The Brave & The Bold is Damian Wayne – and even his appearance in the film isn’t set in stone, given James Gunn mentioned plans around the character have changed over time.
The DC Universe’s Setup Means It Would Benefit Seriously From Introducing All Of DC’s Robins
A core appeal of the DC Universe thus far is the way this version of the DC world is willing to adapt sides of the lore that have seldom made their way on-screen. The earliest days of the DCU have already provided us a look at the Green Lanterns, the DCU’s version of Peacemaker, and a roster of other underrated and underappreciated DC characters.
This backdrop means that the various characters who have held the Robin title in the comics appearing in the DCU would make perfect sense – and would open up story opportunities that live-action DC films have almost entirely ignored, especially when it comes to the Bat-family interacting with one another.
As such, while it looks like Dynamic Duo won’t help the main DCU timeline expand on the stories of the various characters who have served as Batman’s sidekicks, hopefully it does still mark a willingness for the overarching DC Universe to delve more into this territory – meaning the appearance of figures like Tim Drake and Stephanie Brown could be right around the corner.
