Here I Come’ Gets R Rating

Here I Come’ Gets R Rating

The year’s most anticipated horror sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, has just received its respective rating from the MPA, and it’s exactly what fans of the franchise have been waiting for. As reported by Bloody Disgusting, the sequel has been granted an R rating for “strong bloody violence, gore, pervasive language, and brief drug use.”

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come premieres in theaters in just a few weeks, when viewers will get the chance to revisit one of the most popular characters in recent horror history. Samara Weaving will once again play Grace MacCaullay, the bride who finds out the horrible truth about her new family on her wedding night. Following the events of 2019’s Ready or Not, the surviving bride will be pulled back into the action, as her sister has also become a target in the sinister hunting game. After a night of multiple attacks by her husband and in-laws, the fearless Grace realizes that the sinister conspiracy behind the games is much bigger than she originally thought.

While the 2019 original was also rated R, the rating was due to “violence, bloody images, language throughout, and some drug use.” Judging from the sequel’s rating, it’s safe to assume that it will be as unhinged as its first images showed, and a major jump ahead from the already-violent original. Weaving’s costar Shawn Hatosy said it himself while speaking with Deadline months ago, sharing, “There is no ceiling to how gory it can get with these guys.”

Searchlight Pictures

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come stars Weaving alongside Kathryn Newton, who plays her sister Faith. Joining them is a stacked supporting cast that includes Hatosy, Kevin Durand, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Néstor Carbonell, Elijah Wood, Olivia Cheng, and David Cronenberg. The film is in the hands of the same creative team, as directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will once again team up with writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Producers include Tripp Vinson, James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Bradley J. Fischer.

The sequel will premiere in theaters on March 27, courtesy of Fox Searchlight Pictures. However, a few days before the official theatrical release, the lucky attendees of the 2026 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival will get a chance to see the film in an early preview screening.

As it was revealed earlier this year, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come picks up just hours after the events of the original film. The official synopsis of the film reads:

Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace (Samara Weaving) discovers she’s reached the next level of the nightmarish game — and this time with her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world. Four rival families are hunting her for the throne, and whoever wins rules it all.
