Confirmation, Release Date, & Everything We Know

This article contains spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection Season 1!Dexter: Resurrection is now the franchise’s only active show after Paramount pulled the plug on Original Sin after just one season, but there’s a lot to look forward to as the crime saga continues. While the upcoming run is being billed as Resurrection Season 2, it’s actually the twelfth batch of episodes that have been produced. In reality, Resurrection is actually Dexter Season 11, with the New Blood miniseries serving as the show’s Season 9 ahead of Resurrection‘s inaugural run in 2025. With Original Sin being a prequel, it bucked the franchise’s trend of linear storytelling.

Currently in the throes of trying to give Michael C. Hall’s serial killer an ending that fans find acceptable, Resurrection Season 2 is expected to continue the Dexter franchise’s return to form after the respective finales for Season 8 and New Blood fell very short of what viewers wanted. At this point, it seems desperately unclear just how Dex’s story will end. That said, the various Dexter shows have always thrived on this type of uncertainty, so maybe it’s best not to think too hard about what Resurrection Season 2 may bring.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 Is Confirmed

Dexter came back to screens in force when Original Sin and Resurrection debuted in quick succession. Given how divisive New Blood‘s ending was, it was always a risk that fans had grown disillusioned with the franchise and wouldn’t be tuning in. When Original Sin Season 1 was axed after not performing as well as expected, Resurrection‘s future beyond Season 2 started to become cloudy. Thankfully, fans flocked to Paramount+ to see Michael C. Hall reprise his seminal role.

Shortly after Season 1 aired its finale, showrunner Clyde Phillips announced that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 had been given the green light. The upcoming run will match the episode count of its predecessor, with 10 more installments confirmed to be on the way. The speedy renewal isn’t just a relief because it means Dexter will be back; it also opens the door for a surprisingly speedy return for Hall’s character.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 Is Expected to Premiere in October 2026

Speaking with Love It Film, Clyde Phillips confirmed that a technique referred to as “block shooting” will speed up the process of getting Dexter: Resurrection back to TV screens as quickly as possible. Although he didn’t offer specific dates during the interview, the showrunner named April as the month that Season 2 would begin filming, and stated that October is when the first episode will drop. This far out, it’s possible that any number of things could go wrong to disrupt this rapid turnaround.

However, Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 had a very similar production schedule, and that worked out just fine. With the show’s first run ending in September 2025, a little over a year will have passed when Season 2 lands. Given how common it is now to have two or more years between seasons, Phillips’ determination for Resurrection to return as soon as possible is very welcome. It’ll allow the show’s momentum to keep building, keeping audiences excited and engaged. Similar projects should take note of this enthusiastic urgency.

What ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 Will Be About

The deaths of Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage) and Angel Batisa (David Zayas) both set up Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. The investigation into Prater’s disappearance ultimately unveils what appears to be the identity of the New York Ripper. The mysterious serial killer isn’t shown in Season 1, so it would make sense for the elusive Don Frampt to make his on-screen debut in Season 2. That said, there could still be a twist or two in store regarding the Ripper’s true identity.

Similarly, Batisa’s death is almost certain to launch an investigation by his former Miami Metro colleagues, which could easily connect to Dexter. As such, it’s perhaps unlikely that Dexter and Harrison (Jack Alcott) will be in New York when Resurrection comes back for another run, or they may flee before Season 2 ends. There’s also the matter of Eric Stonestreet’s Al “Rapunzel” Jolly being the only serial killer from Prater’s group – other than Dexter – to leave the city alive, and without ever knowing who Dexter really was. It stands to reason that Hall’s character won’t want to leave Al alive, and that Season 2 will also introduce new elements to the story.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 Cast

Michael C. Hall will obviously be back as Dexter Morgan in Resurrection Season 2. There wouldn’t be much of a show without him. It would also make sense if Harrison returned, along with a few other key characters from Season 1 – the ones that survived, anyway. Kadia Sarif would also be a logical addition to the Season 2 cast as Detective Wallace’s investigation continues. Her partner, Domonic Fumasa’s Detective Oliva, should also be back.

That said, very few actors have been confirmed beyond the obvious. If Season 1’s all-star guest cast is considered, Season 2 could be similarly stacked with big names. Conversely, franchise legacy characters, like Quinn (Desmond Harrington) and Masuka (C.S. Lee), were given very little to do in Season 1, and so may return in more substantial roles when the show returns. The lack of solid information in this regard leaves the possibilities for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 wide open, which is actually pretty exciting.
