Kiefer Sutherland Arrested for Assaulting Ride-Share Driver

24 star Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested following an alleged physical altercation with a ride-share driver in Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. According to Variety, the LAPD responded to a call of a reported assault of a ride-share driver at 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2026, that took place near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

The assailant, later identified by the police as Kiefer Sutherland, reportedly assaulted the driver and made threats against the victim after entering their vehicle. The victim did not need any medical attention and reportedly received no injuries.

In violation of California Penal Code section 422, Sutherland was arrested for making criminal threats toward the ride-share driver. Sutherland was bailed out on a $50,000 bond later that Monday morning with a court date set for Feb. 2, 2026. Sutherland nor his representatives have made a comment.

Kiefer Sutherland’s Prior Arrest History

Sutherland has a history of arrest. In 1989, he was arrested for driving under the influence. Sutherland would later be arrested for three more DUI’s in 1993, 2004, and 2007. Following his arrest on Sept. 25, 2007, the actor pleaded no contest to the DUI charge and was sentenced to 48 days in jail. On May 6, 2009, following a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sutherland was arrested after headbutting fashion designer Jack McCollough at The Mercer Hotel in SoHo. Sutherland later apologized, and charges were dropped.

Kiefer Sutherland is the son of actress Shirley Douglas and Donald Sutherland, both of whom passed away in 2020 and 2024, respectively. Sutherland broke out following his performance in Stand By Me. He went on to star in high-profile movies during the 1980s, like The Lost Boys, Promised Land, and Young Guns. In the 1990s, he appeared in movies such as Flatliners, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and A Few Good Men.

Sutherland is likely best known for his role as Jack Bauer on 24. 24 ran for eight seasons from 2001 to 2010, with the television movie 24: Redemption airing in 2008 following the WGA Strike of 2007 to 2008, delaying Season 4. Sutherland reprised his role for 24: Live Another Day, a 12-episode revival in 2014. Talk of a 24 feature film adaptation was reportedly in development at 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment in 2024. In November 2025, Imagine Entertainment president Justin Wilkes hinted at more adventures for Jack Bauer, either as a feature film or a new television series, though recent headlines suggest Kiefer Sutherland might not return to the role.
