Although this past Sunday was all glamour, celebration, and cheering at the Golden Globes, there is one Hollywood legend who wasn’t very happy with the ceremony. Hans Zimmer, the composer of productions like Inception, Gladiator and the Dune films, attended the Golden Globes, as he was nominated for his music in F1: The Movie. Nevertheless, the Best Original Score award was one of the few that didn’t get handed out during the official ceremony. It was during the commercial break – a decision that Zimmer says was “ignorant.”
While Zimmer was not the recipient of the award for 2025’s Best Original Score, the Oscar-winning composer did not stay quiet about the organization’s decision to announce the winner during a moment when virtually nobody was watching. Instead of handing out the award for the best musical score, the Golden Globes preferred to give the screen time to other categories like Best Podcast. We’ll leave it up to you to decide what’s more fundamental for a movie-viewing experience.
What Did Hans Zimmer Say About the 2026 Golden Globes Ceremony?
Ludwig Göransson took the Golden Globe for his outstanding work in the horror film Sinners, a win that may be a sign of another Oscar for the young composer, who has already won for his work in Black Panther and Oppenheimer. However, before Göransson’s win, all the nominated composers knew their names would not be mentioned during the telecast. The Golden Globes organization decided to cut the category from the official broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.
As reported by Deadline, Zimmer addressed this decision moments before the official ceremony began. Speaking on the red carpet, the Oscar-winning composer slammed the organizers, saying:
“It feels a little bit ignorant. We are the psychological underbelly of the whole thing.
“This is a room filled with filmmakers who understand the mechanics and understand when I come home after working on a film, my children don’t know who I am because I haven’t been home for months…The composer has such an important role in making films by the time we come to the music, the director has been through war. Our first job is to remind him why he did this film in the first place.”
Although host Nikki Glaser made a joke about Zimmer during her opening monologue and was shown laughing, the legendary composer was not happy with the way the ceremony was carried out. When asked what he would say to the person who made the controversial decision, Zimmer said: “I wouldn’t talk to them – I think our potential friendship has been canceled.”
Throughout his career, Zimmer has won two Golden Globes. First, he won in 1995 for his work in The Lion King, and then in 2001, he won for Gladiator. Zimmer has also won an Academy Award twice. The Lion King earned him an Oscar in 1995, and in 2022, the composer won the Oscar for Best Original Score for his work in Dune.
