Farming Lan Yan’s materials in Genshin Impact could be a complicated task if you don’t know where to start, but the Anemo character introduced in Version 5.3 needs to be fully Ascended and upgraded before she is put into a proper team comp for her offensive and supporting abilities. Lan Yan is a character from Liyue, confirmed for Version 5.3, alongside characters like Mavuika and the Pyro Traveler. Along with these units, Lan Yan is among the four new characters in Genshin Impact 5.3, though she is rumored to be a 4-star unit while the rest are 5-stars.

While HoYoverse has yet to detail the role of Lan Yan, leaks about her have emerged with the beta tests for Version 5.3. The rumors show that Lan Yan will be a support unit capable of creating a shield with her Elemental Skill while also triggering Elemental Conversion to allow her shield to have increased DMG absorption from certain elements it interacts with, somewhat like the ability used by Chasca in Genshin Impact, which has her fire projectiles of different elements at enemies. Before you take advantage of Lan Yan’s benefits, however, you should ensure you fully Ascend her.

Ascension Materials To Farm For Lan Yan In Genshin Impact

Players Will Have To Traverse Several Regions

Ascending the character will require farming Lan Yan’s materials and, as an Anemo character, you can start off by gathering Vayuda Turquoise stones. These are the Ascension materials used by all Anemo characters in the game. Vayuda Turquoise Slivers, Fragments, Chunks, and Gemstones can be farmed from bosses aligned to Anemo in some way. Anemo Hypostasis, Tenebrous Papilla, Maguu Kenki, Solitary Suanni, Stormterror, and Shouki no Kami, The Prodigal are some of the bosses in Genshin Impact that drop Vayuda Turquoise stones.

Unfortunately, there’s no way of coinciding the farming efforts of Vayuda Turquoise stones with the world boss material used by Lan Yan. According to Honey Hunter World, the world boss material she consumes is Gold-Inscribed Secret Source Core, a drop from the Secret Source Automaton: Configuration Device in Genshin Impact – and this opponent only drops Vajrada Amethyst stones. This boss is located in Natlan, near the People of the Springs tribe. Because Lan Yan uses 46 copies of Gold-Inscribed Secret Source Core, you will need to face and defeat this boss multiple times, possibly over a few days.

It’s recommended to bring a shielder to the fight against Secret Source Automaton.

The next set of items on Lan Yan’s Ascension materials list is composed of Whopperflower Nectar, Shimmering Nectar, and Energy Nectar. These three materials are part of the same item family that drop from Whopperflower enemies. These items will be used in Lan Yan’s Talent-leveling process, too, so you’ll need to farm a large quantity to ensure you can fully upgrade her. To locate Whopperflowers with more ease, you can use the official interactive map on HoYoLAB and filter the enemies. This will show you where they spawn in Genshin Impact and you can plan a farming route from there.

Genshin Impact: Xianyun Character Ascension (& Materials)

By leveling Xianyun and her Talents, you can unlock her full potential as a support unit in Genshin Impact. Here are the materials you need to farm.

The final Ascension material for Lan Yan is Clearwater Jade, a Local Specialty from Liyue’s Chenyu Vale. These materials have limited nodes on the map and only respawn every 48 hours, as is the case with most Local Specialties. For reference, this is the same Ascension material used by Xianyun. To adequately obtain all copies of the material, it’s best to follow the Clearwater Jade farming route in Genshin Impact and repeat the process as many times as necessary until you obtain all 168 copies of the item that are needed for a complete Ascension.

You will also need a hefty sum of Mora to fuel the Ascension process for Lan Yan. In total, expect to spend 420,000 Mora to unlock all the Ascension level thresholds and an extra 1,673,400 Mora if you level up Lan Yan with Character EXP Materials. You can and should always farm extra Mora in Blossom of Wealth activities all across Teyvat.

While you are gathering Mora, you should farm a large surplus, as the amount consumed when leveling up her Talents is increased. Blossoms of Wealth are the quickest way to obtain Mora, but you can also get more from quests and other activities in the game.

Talent Materials To Farm For Lan Yan In Genshin Impact

One Of The Items Could Not Be Pre-Farmed

In addition to the Nectar items that were previously mentioned, Lan Yan’s Talent-leveling process also consumes the Diligence Talent books. These items are exclusive to Liyue and can be farmed from Taishan Mansion Domain on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. A large amount of Diligence Talent books is needed, so you’ll need to farm this Domain several times and then optimize your gains by using the Alchemy Table to transform lower-grade items into rarer ones – as is the case with all item families.

The next item shown on the list of Lan Yan’s materials is an unknown weekly boss material that will be introduced with the character in Version 5.3. So far, the names of the three materials dropped by the boss haven’t been leaked, but you will need to beat the new leaked weekly boss in Genshin Impact 5.3 over the course of some weeks to obtain the 18 copies of the material used by Lan Yan. You can unlock this boss either by following the main Archon Quests or by using the likely quick-start function that should be made available.

The last Talent material for Lan Yan, as is the case with all other characters in the game, is Crown of Insight. A total of three of these rare materials will be needed, one for each of the upgradable Talents. Crowns of Insight can be obtained from some limited-time events, as well as reputation systems. You can also purchase them from Paimon’s Bargains, as long as you have the proper resources to spend.

Genshin Impact 5.3 Leaks Show Building Characters Is Getting Much Easier

A series of quality-of-life updates and system optimizations have been leaked for Genshin Impact 5.3, hinting at an easier time building characters.

As was mentioned, fully leveling up Lan Yan’s Talents is an expensive process, and you’ll see yourself investing nearly five million Mora to upgrade all her abilities to the maximum level. As always, farm Mora in Blossom of Wealth activities and complete quests across the game. With this done, you can start working on Lan Yan’s build in Genshin Impact so as to fine-tune her into the promising support she can be in team comps.
