James Gunn Confirms ‘Creature Commandos’ Season 2 Is in Production

Creature Commandos Season 2 has gotten a significant update from James Gunn. Creature Commandos Season 1 aired from Dec. 5, 2024, to Jan. 9, 2025 and kicked off the DCU. Season 1 ended with the reveal of The Bride (Indira Varma) becoming the new leader of Task Force M, aka the Creature Commandos, which includes Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), Weasel, and a rebuilt G.I. Robot (both voiced by Sean Gunn), new characters Nosferata and Khalis, alongside The Suicide Squad’s King Shark.

Commenting on Threads, James Gunn confirmed that Creature Commandos Season 2 is currently in production, via DC Film News. When asked by a fan, “When do we get more Creature Commandos?” Gunn replied, “When we’re done animating the new season, which is in production now.” Gunn also confirmed that Creature Commandos Season 2 will pick up after Peacemaker Season 2, suggesting some major implications for the DCU.

When Can Fans Expect to See ‘Creature Commandos’ Season 2?

Currently, there is no set return date for Creature Commandos Season 2. Fans are hoping for a late-2026 premiere date, which would make Season 2 one of four DCU titles for the year, alongside Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface. However, while Creature Commandos Season 2 was confirmed in February 2025, production did not begin until June 2025. Given the long animation process and the 23-month window from when Season 1 was announced and entered production to when it aired, that means Season 2 might not air until 2027.

With the new season taking place after the events of Peacemaker Season 2, it certainly opens up some strong possibilities. It will first mean a time-jump between Seasons 1 and 2 of Creature Commandos, as the series took place before Superman and Peacemaker Season 2, as indicated by Rick Flag Jr.’s rising rank in the DCU. One question certainly on fans’ minds is whether the show will return before or after James Gunn’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow, and whether he wrote both scripts with the other in mind, or how one would impact the other.

Creature Commandos Season 2, also taking place after the Peacemaker Season 2 finale, might also mean the upcoming season ties into DC Comics’ Salvation arc, which depicts the United States government rounding up metahumans and sending them to another dimension. Will the Creature Commandos be tasked with rounding up superheroes and villains, and will they themselves be sent to the Salvation planet like the Suicide Squad was in the comics? While Creature Commandos Season 1 was the first introduction to the DCU, Season 2 will look to flesh out the universe even more. Season 1 laid the groundwork for the likes of Clayface and the still-in-development Sgt. Rock movie, so Season 2 might be key to setting up the rumored Salvation Run project in development at DC Studios.
