Jennifer Lawrence Doesn’t Like Her R-Rated Sex Scenes to be with Friends

“Because Rob and I did not know each other, which is kind of better, you know? Like in Hunger Games, like me and Josh Hutcherson would have to kiss and that’s like… Imagine it. You know, it’s weirder and so yeah, doing it with a stranger is preferable.”

In Die My Love, Lawrence and Pattinson were required to engage in a “naked sex tiger” scene, which saw director Lynne Ramsey taking the pair on an interpretive dance lesson before they did the scene on the first day of filming.

“We got to Calgary like three weeks before we started shooting. Rob and I both [are] embarrassed very easily, and that was mortifying. It was, I mean, I’m not…a dancer, Rob’s [the] worst dancer. And it was like, now blow like a tree — like it was just so embarrassing. So I think by the time she was like, ‘Yeah, get naked.’ We were just kind of like, ‘Okay, at least it’s not interpretive dance…’

‘Die My Love’ Was a Divisive Low-Key Movie

Released in November 2025, Die My Love was not in the same league as some of Lawrence and Pattinson’s blockbuster movies, taking just $11 million during its release on 1,500 screens before it shifted to streaming on Mubi in late December.

While the film received a six-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival and received reasonably favorable reviews from critics – it holds a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes – audiences were much more divided about the movie. After being described as an “art-house character piece,” Die My Love was clearly not a film for everyone. Some called it a “genius-level fever dream” and heaped praise on the “fire combo” of Lawrence and Pattinson, and others noted that “the subject matter is incredibly important.” However, its 46% Popcornmeter score indicates how many people were not on board with the direction of the film.

Among the less impressive reviews, many called it “a complete waste of time,” and “a drawn-out bore.” One review, by a user that noted they had not been “pissed off enough to write a review since Long Legs,” called it “one of the most unpleasant movies I have ever tried to watch.” Another review was even more brutal, saying, “After suffering through this, I now despise most of the actors in this movie, especially Jennifer Lawrence. She was awful, her character was awful.”

Whether it was Lawrence’s feral performance or the subject matter itself, Die My Love is a movie that was never going to be for everyone. However, it is also a film that is intended to be uncomfortable, challenging and not a mainstream blockbuster, and in all of that it admirably succeeded.
