Wharton – Zubimendi – Isak all feature in Arsenal news and gossip

Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews that we think you guys could have missed today…

Arsenal are understood to have discussed a potential transfer swoop for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as they enter into advanced talks over hiring Roberto Olabe.

CaughtOffside can confirm reports that Arsenal have spoken with Olabe and that he’s looking in a strong position to replace Edu as sporting director at the Emirates Stadium, but that is not the only person they would like to bring in from Sociedad.

Arsenal were looking to add a few more players to the side during the last summer window and were heavily linked with a move for the impressive Zubimendi – who has been very good over in La Liga over the past few seasons

In the end however, ARSENAL FC made the decision to move for a few other players and opted to not splash the £53 million it would have taken to bring Zubimendi to the Premier League.

The north Londoners reportedly made contact with Zubimendi’s entourage over the summer and were reportedly dangerously close to a potential deal for the star according to reports, but they opted to sign Mikel Merino instead.

Their interest in the player has wavered in recent months, but making the decision to bring Olabe to the club, they enquired about the availability of Zubimendi, according to the Caughtoffside website.

Zubimendi has been brilliant for Sociedad over the past few seasons and we can easily see why the ARSENAL scouts too such an interest in the man, he really has been impressive.

It is probably the right decision to stay put for now – there is no need to move clubs at this stage of his career. But it will be interesting to see what move he makes next as Arsenal dont really need another midfielder like him.

So unless Thomas Partey is leaving the club, there is not really any space for Zubimendi at the Emirates, so many are wondering why Arsenal wants the player.

ARTETA TOLD SIGN ISAK

Arsenal have been again encouraged to replace Kai Havertz with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, a player that the Gunners were reportedly very interested in signing during the summer window.

Since his move from Chelsea to ARSENAL, Havertz has improved alot over the past few seasons and is a man that Mikel Arteta relies on alot to lead that Arsenal attack, and as we said, he has done well since his move to the Gunners.

But that has not stopped speculation and rumours that Arsenal still need to sin a 30 goals a season striker in order to win that Premier League title, leading to suggestions that a future move for Isak could once again happen.

Isak, 25, has scored a goal in every other game for Newcastle, with 21 of those coming in the Premier League last season and now reporter Iomie Stanley has urged Arsenal to sign the Swedish star.

‘It’s an interesting debate on who should be signed to lead that Arsenal attack over the next 3,4 or even 5 years.

‘I’ll hold my hands up and say I was one of the people who didn’t think Havertz was up to the task when he first signed, but he’s found a new position and style of play under Mikel Arteta and has become a vital focal point up front for Arsenal this season.

‘But ‘If ARSENAL can sign Isak from Newcastle as their number nine, that would be a perfect fit for all parties – even more so than Havertz as the big Swedish star is proven to be a 20-goals a season striker.

‘If the club want a long-term project and vision, he’d be an absolutely blinding fit and one that would help the club win that Premier League title for the first time since 2004.’

‘But as we said, Mikel Arteta knows who he wants, and it will be interesting to see who he signs.’

WHARTON MESSAGE SENT

ARSENAL expert Charles Watts says it would be no surprise if the Gunners had a genuine interest in making a move to bring Manchester United linked and Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton to the club in the upcoming January transfer window

Wharton has impressed since his move to Selhurst Park and he has become one of the top targets for all the big Premier League clubs, as many believe that he needs to make that step up away from Crystal Palace to further his career.

The 19-year-old was pursued by Chelsea before he joined Palace in January, while he was recently included in England’s Euro 2024 squad, although he was one of only three outfield players who failed to make an appearance at the tournament.

But with the many games that Arsenal are planning to be apart of this season, the Caughtoffside website has claimed that Wharton is a player that the Gunners are open to signing when the January transfer window opens up in just a few weeks time.

And now Watts has had his say: “There are going to be plenty of players linked with Arsenal as January edges ever closer. We’ve seen that in recent weeks, with Adam Wharton mentioned as a target,” Watts said.

“Wharton is a fine player and you could see the immediate impact he had on Crystal Palace when he first arrived from Blackburn last season.”

He added: “We know that Manchester City are keeping tabs on him and I’m sure there will be plenty of other top clubs monitoring his progress at Selhurst Park.

“With Thomas Partey and Jorginho coming to the end of their contracts, ARSENAL will have to make some decisions soon about how they are going to freshen up their midfield options and it would be no surprise if Wharton was in their thinking.

“But I can only reiterate what I’ve been told about January and that is that the likelihood when it comes to Arsenal is that it will be a reactive window, rather than a proactive one.

“I believe the plan is to wait until the summer to do anything significant, unless something happens that potentially forces their hand when it comes to the market.”
