Stranger Things fans have managed to do the unthinkable and crash Netflix on a day when the streamer has not released anything new. Of course, this is all because of the growing online conspiracy that has taken over the internet – and particularly several social media sites – with fans claiming that at 8 P.M. E.T. on January 7, a secret Stranger Things episode would be released. Just to confirm for transparency, it didn’t. But millions still felt they had to log on and check, just in case.
A large group of Stranger Things fans have been adamant that the finale that aired on Netflix on New Year’s Eve was not actually the ending of the series, with a number of theories very quickly gaining traction across TikTok, YouTube, X, and other social media channels with the #conformitygate tag attached to them. These theories picked out select scenes from the final season that “prove” that most of Season 5 was actually a false ending, and the real ending would be released today.
The conspiracy theory highlighted a number nine appearing on dominoes, posters, and even in Morse Code as part of a set of cassette tapes in a storage box on the wall of one scene, all of which were said to point to January 7 being the day that the “true finale” would finally be released. It seems now that there were a lot of people who just could not resist checking out Netflix at the same time to make sure they didn’t miss out on an internet fad that manipulated everyone more effectively than Vecna himself could have managed.
‘Stranger Things’ Is Moving on to New Things
Although it is clear that some fans really would like Netflix to spend millions of dollars reworking the final season to give them the ending they wanted to see, for everyone else, there are more Stranger Things stories coming to Netflix in the future, with new characters, new angles, and new tales to tell without looking back on the flagship show’s backlash other than in a behind-the-scenes episode that releases on January 12.
Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is an animated series that takes place between Season 2 and Season 3, which means that it involves many favorite characters as they appeared several years ago. While there are very few details known about what exactly will take place in this series, it has been reported that a leak suggested Season 2 of this series has already been given the green light.
Alongside this, a new live-action spin-off is being developed around that mysterious rock, seemingly the source of Henry Creel’s first encounter with the Abyss. The Duffer brothers confirmed that their first live-action spin-off will be focused on this, but will not feature any other real connection to what has come before.
It seems that whatever the Duffers do next in the world of Stranger Things, they will not be returning to the characters of Hawkins, whose stories are at an end, whether that end was completely satisfying or not.
