Marvel fans are still no closer to learning the identity of Sadie Sink’s character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Web-slinging onto the big screen this July, the sequel to No Way Home, which wrapped filming last month, returns Tom Holland to his rightful place as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. But just who the heck is the Stranger Things sensation bringing to the table? Sink spoke about the mystery during a recent stop by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
“It’s torture. There’s so much speculation. I feel like there’s a new character every week. I tell people. The people I know. I found out through online theories. Before I got cast, there was speculation online that said, ‘Sadie Sink is gonna be in the new Spider-Man.’ I was like, ‘I am?’ Sure enough, two days later, they asked me to do it. Those theories, there’s sometimes some truth to [them].”
The most common suggestion amongst fans seems to be that she’s portraying a variant of classic X-Men member Jean Grey, who’s previously been brought to life by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. Brand New Day was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton after proving his superhero blockbuster chops on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The cast features Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Michael Mando as The Scorpion, Zendaya as MJ, and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Meanwhile, Severance‘s Tramell Tillman and The Bear‘s Liza Colón-Zayas also have mystery roles.
Does a Dark Fate Await Sadie Sink’s Mystery Marvel Newcomer?
Last October, images and video clips straight out of the Brand New Day set in Glasgow, Scotland, potentially revealed a spoiler connected to Sadie Sink’s character. The streets were doubling for New York City at the time, and eager photographers managed to capture the 23-year-old actress looking a little worse for wear. One video, uploaded to X page @spideyupdated, witnessed Sink stretched out on a gurney and being transported into the back of a black van.
The character appeared unresponsive in the footage, while the two wheeling her away were rumored to be representing the Department of Damage Control, who are canonically known for cleaning up superhuman conflicts. So, she either possesses superhuman powers or was caught in the crossfire during a battle between Spider-Man and one of his archenemies. No matter the case, it has become increasingly clear, especially considering other leaks, that Sink has an important role to play in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though the identity of her character remains a torturous mystery.
