For Good’ is Now Available to Stream at Home

The second part of the movie is already topping the Apple Store chart in the U.S. as fans rush to relive the magic, emotion, and music of one of the most successful movie musicals of all time. Picking up after the events of Wicked: Part One, Wicked: For Good finds Elphaba alone and in hiding, while she also attempts to expose the truth about the “wonderful” Wizard of Oz. Elphaba’s journey once again entwines with that of Glinda, until the pair find their own paths which will lead them to their destinies.

Wicked became one of the highest grossing movies of 2024, and while Wicked: For Good managed to perform better than its predecessors in its near-perfect reviews, the film’s box office could not quite generate the same level of success. The first film ended its theatrical run at $758 million, giving it a place in the list of 2024’s biggest movies. Wicked: For Good has taken £505 million worldwide, putting it around number 13 on the 2025 box office list.

The instant success of the film on digital download suggests that there will be plenty more profit coming along, especially when Wicked: Part One made back the total budget of both movies. With the story of the witches of Oz being a highly praised success story across the last two years, it is not surprising that there is now talk of further movies being made to expand the story.

Will ‘Wicked’ Continue With a Third Movie?

While the story of Wicked as told in the musical is done, there are several ways the franchise could continue if it follows the other novels of Gregory Maguire. Along with stories based around the Cowardly Lion and Elphaba’s child, the author has recently released a new story about the future Wicked Witch’s childhood and announced a new novel focused on Glinda. This potentially gives plenty of scope for future movies to dive deeper into this expansion of L. Frank Baum’s world for years to come.

Last month, Universal Pictures’ Chief Marketing Officer, Michael Moses, hinted that the future of the Wicked franchise is something that is very much being considered. He said:

“Because of ‘Wicked’s success but also the fanship, we have almost a responsibility to figure out how we can continue in this universe. Have we figured it out yet? No. But there are things underway”

Naturally, there are many questions to be asked. Do we need more movies based on what is, in essence, a fan expansion of Baum’s original Oz stories, many of which have themselves never been adapted? It seems that if there is another Wicked movie, it will take a very different path to the two-part musical adaptation, which changed much of Maguire’s prose to be more intricately linked with the 1939 The Wizard of Oz movie. For now, though, fans are now basking in the glory of having the full musical adaptation at home to watch at their leisure.
