There have been plenty of people worried that Stranger Things’ final season would “do a Game of Thrones” and ruin the series with some bad scripting decisions. While that hasn’t quite happened (although plenty of viewers have been left less than impressed with the new season) the latest run of episodes has managed to emulate one controversial Thrones moment by including something in a shot that should not technically have been around at the time the series is set.
One eagle-eyed viewer spotted a small mistake in what has been an impeccably nostalgic decade of 80s continuity. In the scene where Holly Wheeler breaks free of Vecna’s clutches, her clothing shows that she is wearing an Under Armour shirt, noticeable by the logo on her sleeve. While many people will not have noticed the logo, won’t know the company it stands for, or will simply just assume it is meant to be there, the problem arises from the clothing company not being founded until 1996. With Stranger Things’ final season being set in 1987, this means the shirt could not have been worn by Holly for almost another decade after the series.
This error has drawn comparisons with the infamous Starbucks cup moment in Game of Thrones’ final season, when a cup was left in shot, along with other errors such as a water bottle appearing one scene, and an extra being seen in modern clothing during the Season 8 premiere. While the Stranger Things gaff will not go down in infamy like the GoT Starbucks incident, it once again proves how hard it is to ensure everything is perfect in a show or movie set in a historical setting.
‘Stranger Things’ Will See Out 2025 With a Huge Finale
Stranger Things has now released seven of its final eight episodes. While the season opened with a strong start to its final run, the second part of the season has not been received quite as favorably, with Episode 7 scoring the lowest rating of any episode of the entire series on IMDb.
Stranger Things will come to its end on New Year’s Day, revealing how the story of Eleven, Mike, the Upside-Down, Vecna and everyone else in Hawkins, Indiana, comes to its conclusion. With Season 5 completely flipping everything that we thought we knew about what the Upside-Down is, and Vecna’s plans, the stage is now set for a cataclysmic finale that will potentially see the deaths of several prominent characters from the series.
Whether the Duffer brothers can manage to stick the landing is something that we will find out in a few days, but the creators of one of Netflix’s most-watched series have always known where the series was headed. As they previously explained:
“Obviously, it’s stressful trying to figure out how you want to end the show. Luckily, it was about six or seven years ago that we knew at least what the final scene is. We always knew what the last 40 minutes were going to be.”
Stranger Things is streaming now on Netflix, with the final episode debuting at 8 P.M. ET on December 31, 2026.
