Following an unexpected cancellation by NBC earlier this year, Netflix has picked up two seasons of a fan-favorite crime thriller series, and will begin streaming both next month. Debuting back in 2023, the show in question was a solid hit for the network when it first started, but after a ratings decline and the need to make way for the NBA, NBC decided to give the series the axe. Unfortunately for viewers, that meant it ended with a major cliffhanger, and they never got the resolution they wanted.
Titled Found, that won’t change once the crime series heads to Netflix on January 2, 2026, but there is always the possibility that if the show does well, the streaming service could provide fans with the ending they deserve. It’s happened before, and will no doubt happen again, but for now we’ll stick to what we do know, which is that Found is one heck of a thriller that deserves a bigger audience.
Starring Shanola Hampton, Kelli Williams, Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta, Karan Oberoi, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Found debuted in the fall of 2023 on NBC, and was immediately renewed for a second season the following month. The numbers showed that audiences were definitely captivated by the new series, as the premiere was seen by 10.5 million viewers across all platforms, and it quickly became NBC’s most successful series launch on Peacock. The official synopsis reads:
“Recovery specialist Gabi Mosely and her team are dedicated to finding America’s missing people forgotten by the media, law enforcement and the public. They’ll stop at nothing to solve these cases because, for them, it’s personal. Every member of the team has firsthand experience with a mysterious disappearance, whether it was them or someone they love. But Gabi’s willingness to cross the line could be the very thing that brings her down, because she’s enlisted her own childhood kidnapper to help – while keeping him locked in her basement.”
Why Was ‘Found’ Canceled by NBC?
Unfortunately, Found was the victim of circumstance, and while the ratings did decline in Season 2, it was more a question of what could NBC eliminate to make way for its massive $2.5 billion annual deal with the NBA. The need to fit in 180 primetime hours of basketball meant that there wasn’t a lot of room left for scripted dramas on the schedule, and seeing as how Found’s ratings had dropped off in the all-important 18-49 demographic, it made that series, and others, easy pickings to eliminate.
It was definitely frustrating for the fans, as Found ended on a major cliffhanger that saw Hampton’s character of Gabi finally admit to something she never thought she would, leaving her fate uncertain. So many questions were left unanswered, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give the series a chance once it heads to Netflix. The more people who watch, the better the odds are of them giving it closure, but – admittedly – that’s a very remote possibility under the circumstances.
Look for both seasons of Found to hit Netflix on January 2, 2026.
