‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 Gets Worst Rotten Tomatoes Score But Is Streaming No.1 on Netflix

‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 Gets Worst Rotten Tomatoes Score But Is Streaming No.1 on Netflix

Emily in Paris has been an enigma of television and its Season 5 debut has only deepened the mystery of how the Netflix series starring Lily Collins is still producing a new season when audiences seem to hate it so much. While many highly praised shows have been canceled after a single season on the platform, Emily in Paris’ consistently “rotten” audience reviews have continued to degrade with each new set of episodes, but the show has still strutted its way straight to the top of the Netflix streaming chart.

Emily in Paris originally debuted in 2020, with Collins playing romance-hunting marketing whizz Emily Cooper as she relocates to France, where she becomes romantically entangled while trying to juggle her work. The first season set a relatively low bar, delivering a 61% critic score and 54% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The latest season has slightly increased its Tomatometer score to 71%, but has produced a series-low 41% from viewers.

The new episodes made a change to the format, with Emily actually relocating to Rome for much of Season 5, but the change has not been as good as a rest in this case. Although the series has created its own fandom, the majority of viewers seem to have finally had enough of Emily, wherever she happens to be. As one viewer put it:

“Every season is the same story and it’s become very monotonous and tired.”

The number of reviews being left for the series has been dwindling as quickly as interest in Emily’s next round of romantic misadventures, but along with some calling it “the absolute worst season they’ve released,” and others saying they “should have ended it after Season 3,” it seems that there are several problems with the new season than just a boring and recycled plot.

‘Emily in Paris’ Called Out Over Errors

Netflix may have finally pushed Emily in Paris as far as they should with Season 5, and with accusations of “phoning it in” and “resting on their laurels” littering reviews, maybe it is time for Emily’s European adventures to come to an end.

What has made this season even more of a target for negative comments is the apparent lack of attention to detail when it comes to several easily spotted continuity errors found in the show, and naturally being called out on social media. One such error spotted in the first 15 minutes of the season saw Emily’s footwear becoming the focus of complaints, with eagle-eyed Reddit users pointing out a scene that shows Emily wearing both green high-heels and knee-high boots.

Such errors are minor when buried under the weight of grumbles about the quality of the show’s writing and storylines, which have been going around in the same circles for some time now. Yet, the series is still sitting pretty at the top of the Netflix chart, which proves that whatever the opinions that follow, Emily still knows how to draw a crowd wherever she is.
