Will Poulter has been making a name for himself in recent years, and he will now be leading up his own series after Apple TV picked up crime-drama, Beat the Reaper. Based on the novel by Josh Bazell, the series will see the Guardians of the Galaxy and Warfare star playing the show’s main character, Dr. Peter Brown, as well as executive producing alongside showrunner Sam Catlin, who previously worked on Preacher and Breaking Bad.
The series focuses on Brown, who is “an intern at Boston’s worst hospital, with a talent for medicine, a shift from hell, and a past he’d prefer to keep hidden. But when a patient recognizes him from his dangerous past, Brown has eight hours to elude the government, mob hit men, quack surgeons, and a trail of dead gangsters to somehow beat the reaper.” Poulter has certainly shown off both his comedic and serious sides in his previous roles, so should be perfectly suited to the task of bringing Brown’s story to life.
This is not the only project currently on Poulter’s slate, as he will also soon be seen in Netflix romantic drama Saturn Return with Rachel Brosnahan, horror movie Rapture, and sci-fi comedy I Love Boosters with Demi Moore, Keke Palmer, and Taylour Paige. These add to his previous roles in the likes of Death of a Unicorn, The Revenant, and Alan Ritchson’s War Machine. He also made a guest appearance in The Bear, earning himself an Emmy nomination in the process.
Will Poulter Could Be One of the Stars Returning To the MCU
Will Poulter made his MCU debut in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 playing Adam Warlock. The character was massively divisive to many fans, as it was not the same Adam Warlock many Marvel Comics readers were used to seeing, with James Gunn plotting out a story that saw him being awakened early from his creation and therefore being a more immature version of the all-powerful being he is usually depicted as.
However, despite that, Adam Warlock could certainly return for the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie along with the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy characters. The film is expected to bring back almost every MCU character that has been introduced in the MCU over the last two decades, and it seems that could include the Guardians, whose future remains uncertain given the departure of Gunn from Marvel Studios.
Whatever his MCU future holds, Poulter is certainly not going to be short of work in the coming years, and he does really seem to be just getting started. As an actor with a little bit of everything mixed into his list of movies and TV shows, fans can dip into almost any of his former appearances whenever they want…with the exception of Black Mirror’s interactive movie, Banderstatch, which was recently removed from Netflix along with their other interactive titles.
