Sam Raimi’s ‘Drag Me to Hell’ Gets Long Overdue 4K Release

The name Sam Raimi has become synonymous with the horror genre over the years thanks to the Evil Dead trilogy, but following the release of Army of Darkness in 1992, he took a lengthy break from blood and guts to try his hand at other projects. The results were spectacular, to say the least, with the director bringing us such favorites as A Simple Plan, and – of course – Sony’s first Spider-Man trilogy. After more than 15 years away, though, Raimi returned to the genre that made him famous with the release of Drag Me to Hell in 2009, a movie in his filmography that’s not talked about nearly enough.

Now, Scream Factory hopes to change all that, as they’ve recently released some gorgeous 4K versions of Drag Me to Hell that are perfect to stuff in the stockings of horror lovers everywhere this holiday season. First up is the Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray that’s available right now on Amazon that features the original artwork of star Alison Lohman getting dragged, well, to hell.

‘The Wizard of Oz’ and Raimi fans are revisiting the 2013 fantasy film ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ amid the release of ‘Wicked.’

Next is the edition of Drag Me to Hell that you want to pay attention to that’s available exclusively on the Scream Factory website. This one is a beautiful set that includes two 18″ x 24″ posters plus an exclusive slipcase with art done by the incomparable Basil Gogos. There are bonus features galore here, too, including some previously released interviews, trailers, TV spots, and a massive two-hour documentary titled Pardon My Curse: Making Drag Me To Hell. The best part? It’s reasonably priced at just $39.98, which is a steal considering all the goodies you get with it.

Drag Me to Hell 2 Is Currently in the Works

In addition to the two versions of Drag Me to Hell that are now available, Walmart also has an exclusive 4K steelbook edition that is up for pre-order, with a release date of January 7 listed on their website. Of course, with all this renewed hype surrounding the movie thanks to the different 4K releases of Drag Me to Hell, one can’t help but wonder if we’ll ever get a sequel to the 2009 hit, which currently holds a 92% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The answer, it seems, is yes, but with a big asterisk beside it. Raimi revealed in 2023 during a Reddit AMA session that ideas for Drag Me to Hell 2 are now being bounced around by the team at his production company, Ghost House Pictures. However, there’s been little word on things since then, so it’s hard to tell if it’s something that’s in active development, or just being mentioned in passing.

“The team at Ghost House Pictures: Romel Adam and Jose Canas, are trying to come up with a story that would work and I’m anxious to hear if they do!”

Next up for Raimi following the success of 2022’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is another horror-comedy movie, Send Help, which was announced earlier this year. Said to be a mix of Misery and Cast Away, the film is set to star Rachel McAdams as Linda, a woman who gets stranded on an island with her irritating boss after their plane crashes. Little else is known about the project at this time, but word has it that principal photography is set to begin next month.
