Legendary US director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife have been found dead at their home in Los Angeles after an alleged homicide. According to some reports, the couple were discovered having died from multiple stab wounds, with a member of their family being questioned by police over the incident.

The initial reports said that a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were found dead inside a property. A statement released shortly afterward said that detectives from the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division have been assigned to the case, with LAPD Captain Mike Bland saying that the investigation was an “apparent homicide.”

Reiner directed several classic movies, including the beloved The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, and Stephen King’s Stand By Me and Misery. He also acted in many movies and TV shows, such as The Wolf of Wall Street, Sleepless in Seattle, and The Bear.

The first of what will be many tributes came from Sean Astin, president of the Screen Actors’ Guild, who said:

“Rob Reiner is one of the most significant figures in the history of film and television. The impact he made on American culture simply can’t be overstated. Tributes will pour in and the impossibly long list of genre‑defining films and indelible performances will play in our minds and hearts.”
